I don't think the mount is necessary, but I definitely think having comms available is a good idea. I'll have an extra radio if you don't want to get your own, but they're pretty cheap nowadays.

Thanks. I'll try to pick one up. They're not too expensive as you said and would probably be a good thing to have going forward.

Messed with the bumper a bit today. The main goal was to get the peeling plastidip off, then scuff, prime and bed liner the caps. It turned out alright, but I didn’t let it cure long enough and it got screwed up in a few spots. I can probably touch up the small areas that need it later though, so I’m not too worried.

While I had the bumper off, I went ahead and fixed my shitty Amazon China light bar brackets, drilling a 3/8 hole above the lower hole and dremeling the whole thing into one large slot. They fit as they should have in the first place after that. Now the problem I have is the light bar is a little too small by about an inch, but there was enough flex to get it mounted for now. I’ll start shopping for the right one eventually.

Got flagged down by a guy when we went to dinner tonight… he asked if I knew I had water sloshing around in my tail light. I almost made a joke about liquid cooled tail light bulbs, but I was too disappointed that one of the tails I cut open was holding water… and a shitload of it.
    DCBA0841-93BE-46B0-9776-A3D83ABF1640.jpg

Probably drained about a pint from it. Luckily I still had my original housings, so those are swapped back for now. I’ll cut the blacked out ones open and re-seal them before I put them back on the truck. I think I know where it got in, so hopefully it’s an easy fix.

We shall ride eternal, shiny and chrome

I don’t have much info on that one - apparently I didn’t take pictures as I did it, and the charger I originally bought from Amazon is no longer available.

The quick and dirty version, though, is you can open up the console lid by removing like 15-20 small screws around the perimeter and a couple in the middle of the bottom side of the lid. I used an old chisel and razor blade to remove the fins on the bottom side of the tray piece, then traced and cut out the shape of the charger on the tray using a dremel and utility knife. The charger was held in place with black plastic epoxy that I got at Home Depot, and the USB cord connected to the USB ports that I previously installed in place of the cigarette lighter inside the center console.

Found the few spots that weren’t sealed and re-caulked those areas. The passenger side tail was good to go. Blacked out tails are back in place.

Did your Baofeng come pre-programmed or is that something you needed to do on your end? Do you know if any specific programming is needed for T2S? Looking to order mine today.

I haven't done any programming yet, but I have the cable to do it now. I started poking around with CHIRP the other day so might built out a config to share with others while we're there. I think there's going to be a Google Doc with the frequencies that will be used at some point and I'll add that in when it's available. I think you can honestly just run it out of the box and punch in whatever frequency is being used on your trail that day. Nothing too crazy.

Took apart my rear bumper today to take off the PlastiDip and bed liner those caps to match the front. I ended up snapping about 7 of the tabbed connectors that hold the step in place, so I had to use some epoxy to put those back on... fingers crossed that they hold. Everything else went pretty smooth.

    I didn't make a writeup, but it's not too difficult. Here's a parts list:
    • 2 - 10" mending plates or flat bar stock (I used an L bracket mending plate and cut out the corner)
    • 4 - 3/8" x 16 tpi x 5" full-thread hex-head bolts
    • 2 or 4 - 5/16" flat washers (these fit the 3/8" bolts better than the 3/8" washers for some reason)
    • 2 or 4 - 2" spacer sleeves
    • 2 or 4 - 3/8" x 16 thru knobs
I only did 2 knobs since 4 seemed like overkill, but I may eventually get 2 more so it looks a little more finished. The 2 open bolts just act as guides and give a little more stability.

Cleaned up my front tow hooks since they were pretty beat up from road debris and poor decisions off-roading. I hit them with a wire brush attachment on my drill to get all the loose paint off, and took the front-facing portions down to bare metal. Then I primed with self-etching primer and hit with several coats of Sunrise Red enamel.

Hopefully they hold up a little better this time, but we'll see.

There was a washed out area that had a lot more boulders than usual, but we were all able to cross fine going up… on the way back, though, the drop was a little more steep and I nailed my exhaust on one of the rocks. I didn’t think it did much besides bend the tailpipe, but inspection at home showed some more damage…

@Bob_Wiley had fun in that spot too, lol

Yeah, quickly learned why 4 wheel drive is useful. Still made it, just needed a little coercing. Makes me wonder if a rear locker is in my future...?
