I’m going to paint out the interior chrome black like I did with my current set, https://www.tundras.com/threads/trdfergusons-magnetic-gray-faux-pro.85977/#post-2204425 but I’m going to see if I can make it look a little nicer, add some more blackout around the reverse light, and maybe add something on the side where the wall of chrome is. Haven’t really decided yet.

Not yet. It’s on the list but I’d like to save up for some good ones instead of going with the Amazon specials like I usually do.

Sweet! I’ve still got a bed cover to bring your way, so maybe I can figure out a good day to head down there soon.

Trying to smudge the chrome with a little degreaser on a Q-tip should help run down whether the plastic's been coated with actual chrome, or aluminum. If it's aluminum, it'll come off with degreaser, and the plastic may be black underneath already. At worst it'll have much more paint adherence. I mean, at worst it won't work at all, but it might be worth the time.

Thanks man! The tires have been great for me. No issues or complaints, other than minor flat spotting if it sits for a couple days. Traction has been good in the conditions I’ve been in, just not a lot of experience in snow or ice. They’ve worn evenly over the last 23k miles and the road noise isn’t bad for the aggressive tread they have.

Thanks! I’ve stolen/learned a ton from the brains on this forum.

That’s a good tip. I didn’t do that the first time, just used self etching primer, but might try that this time around. It’s gray plastic under the chrome - some of it came off with the masking tape last time.

Cool idea with dumping it into the chamber, but that’ll remove the reflector bowl too, which I don’t want to touch. Might pick up a jug of that just to have around though.

    TRFerguson,
Great Build, I have an 17 SR5 CrewMax Granite. I wanted to ask a couple of questions.
    1. Steering wheel cover do you like it and do you have a source.
    2. Plastic dip bumper covers, Did you paint over the plasti dip? How does that hold up?
    3. What Source did you use for the Pro grille?

    Thanks!

Thanks man. The steering wheel cover has been holding up nicely - it's a pain to install, but not terrible. It definitely helped to pull the wheel and work on it at the counter/table. I'd recommend using contact cement either in place of or in addition to the double sided tape provided: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J9WXT3K/

I had originally Plasti Dipped the chrome bumper caps with Anthracite Gray and a few top coats with Glossifier, but it just gets eaten up by the sun here. I've heard it works better in other climates, though. I ended up removing the plasti dip, then scuffing, priming and spraying bed liner. https://www.tundras.com/threads/trdfergusons-magnetic-gray-faux-pro.85977/page-7#post-2343015

I picked up the grille and bulge from Toyota of Cool Springs back when they still had their online store open. They ran into some issues with sales tax and moved to Facebook-only. You can get the same setup from Sparks Parts, though, or check with your local Toyota dealership parts desk. A lot of times they'll match online prices and you'll save on shipping costs.

Thanks for the reply! Question on the Bumper Cap operation
    1. You ended up scuffing up/steel wool? 2. Primer. 3. Bed Liner. 4. Plasti dip anthracite gray. 5. Then Topping off with glossifier?

Nope, two separate operations. The Plasti Dip application was just cleaning up the chrome with alcohol, masking off for overspray, applying 2 light coats followed by 3 heavier or “wet” coats, then 2 coats of glossifier. My current setup is no Plasti Dip - just bed liner for the top coat. I scuffed the chrome with some 240 or 320 grit sandpaper, but steel wool would work well too.

No primer, just liner material, in your pictures it looks gray?

Yeah, sorry, I skipped a bit there. Scuffed, primered with self etching primer, then finished with bed liner.

Ok got it. The Liner Material you used was it black or the anthracite color?
    Thanks for the help!

I just used black since that's what the hardware store had. I found a pretty close match from Monstaliner called Pyroclastic. It's not cheap since I think you have to buy a lot of it at one time, but it's a good option for something close to MGM, if that's what you're going for. The black looks fine to me, so I'll stick with that.

New set of tails are done. I like how they turned out, with a little more blackout appearance with the inner sidewall blacked out now. I don't think light output is greatly affected, but I'm planning on upgrading to LED bulbs sooner than later anyway.
    IMG_3294.jpg
    IMG_3302.jpg

I also replaced the stainless bolts on my Rigid fogs with black bolts. Slowly but surely killing off all chrome on the truck... I think I just have my headlights to screw up now. The bolts are #6-32 by 3/8" if anyone is wondering.
    IMG_3325.jpg

Hard to tell because of the sun, but here's the stock bolts on the other side.

Love the tails. A little light smoke tint on the fogs might take the edge off those too.

Not a bad idea. I'd probably get some smoked covers instead, though, just so I can pop them off if I need the full light output. Guess I'll add these to the list, lol.

Added a fire extinguisher to the bed rails. Ace had the small automotive ones on sale for $8, so figured that was cheap insurance.

Huge shoutout to @BiggHertz for using his welding skills today! He fixed my busted cam tab and welded up the others so this hopefully won’t happen again.

    Gotcha fam.

gorilla tight those lower cam bolts and they’re not going anywhere. If we break’em again, we’re doing it my way :) TC Cam Tabs with everything outta the way so we can clean the metal and no need for contortionist moves.

came out great and super unlikely you’re breaking anything. Especially if you don’t follow me…seeeeeeend it!
