TRD Sport, cloth interior okay?

Out of all the Tundras the TRD Sport 4x4 LOOKS the best to me from the exterior. I was planning on end of year getting a Platinum or 1794, but I don't know if I want to spend so much for leather seats and seat coolers. I don't need folding mirrors, or leather. Part of me wants a stylish sport truck, mainly for the streets, that is more barebone inside.

How good of quality are the cloth seats in the Tundra? Will they hold up over many many years, as opposed to leather? I know that cloth seats can absorb smells, so I'll have to warn my passenger not to fart in them.

I had thought about the Limited TRD off Road, but the leather is just trimmed, and is of low quality.

Part of me is thinking I could also get a Platinum add some F/R sway bars, and essentially make it look and handle like the TRD Sport, WITH the creature comforts.

    Thoughts?

All i can say is that I love my Platinum. Seats are great! And it easy to eliminate the chrome on the Platinum like the TRD Sport.

Congrats on getting your truck Fhat! I'm thinking maybe go with the Platinum so I won't kick myself later. What about the shocks on the Platinum, I heard they are pretty bad. Are you putting PRO shocks or TRD-Off Road ones? If I want my truck to be a better handling truck, would getting the TRD Sport shocks be a good option, or are there better?

    Thanks!

I went with bilstein 6112/5100 rear +2 coachbuilder shackles. The bilsteins are great. I absolutely love the ride. I bought a used certified Platinum because I was able to afford the new suspension setup with a used truck. If I bought new I couldn't do what I wanted and personally I did not want the TSS. In addition, I love the PRO grille on that year. The new honeycomb look good, but I just like that year better.

You can always get the Sport and add leather and heated seats for $1500. I loved the look of the sport so I decided to go that route. Still have the cloth, but will be going leather this fall after I get my new wheels and tires.

Cloth is okay, but for $50k is okay sufficient? I sure like my Lexus grade leather and moonroof...

Really depends on what you like and or need. I have had leather in all of my trucks until my recent 2019 Tundra purchase. I HAD to go with cloth because my sciatic nerve (just abuses me from my left lower back, through my left butt cheek, and down my left leg) was killing me in leather seats. The cloth seats are much easier on it.

I have the same issues, and I broke my tailbone 20+ yrs ago falling off the back of a work truck when it was raining (which has never healed to this day). The Platinum seats really are that good.

Thanks for sharing Ronin. I also have sciatica and have had chronic pain in that same area for a few years. I contribute a lot of it to driving manual transmission cars for so many years for daily drivers. Now I'll be 40 this year, and I can feel it catch up. I had no idea going leather would reduce your pain, though. Is it because it's softer and more complaint?

Seems like everybody is going for the 6112/5100. How did the stock Platinum suspension feel? Also what are coachbuilder shakles for? At the end of the year, I'll be getting a new Tundra, or a used one, with more money for mods. It will all depend on which dealership in the nation will give me best deal.

Ideally I'd want a new 1794 w/ the TRD Off Road package, as I like the 18" wheels, but unfortunately most 1794s have those cheap chrome clads. Platinum is nice, too though. We'll have to see.

I’d re-read his post, seems to be saying cloth is better for his back.

My tundra came with the black Monroe shocks. Felt like driving a caddy...a boat...very cush. I’ve since replaced with TRD Sport shocks and that firmed it up in a very good way (along w/ rear sway bar). all tundras come with front sway bar...

Cloth is much better for my lower back and my ass. It is firm enough so as not to be too soft, but gives enough and is soft enough to ease me during driving (I drive 540 miles a week to work) I am 45 and the leather in the past couple of years was killing me. The cloth seats in the Tundra have helped tremendously.

Would you happen to know the part #s for the TRD Sport Bilstein shocks?

The cb shackles have less bed bounce, and it lifted the rear. 1794's are nice, but a lot to de-chrome. Honestly I only had the Platinum suspension for a week or so. It was ok, but the 6112 are way better. Wish you the best on the purchase of your truck!

Or do what I did and get the sport and add Katzkins Leather, just another option.

I've had both in my 1st Gen, the cloth holds up well, but you may want some good quality seat covers to protect it as long as possible. My buddy has a 2010 with cloth but it has taken a bit of a beating from a young child & a large dog. He's looking into Karzkins. Aftermarket leather is of higher quality then OEM & usually lower price. I prefer leather now.

I would go with leather but I would destroy cloth with two dogs. (I have a cover for the back seat now)

My Tacoma had cloth seats and they didnt fair all that well in 7 years.

    Sure, ptr13-34070 and ptr13-34071

Disregard anything that states these are for 2WD only, Toyota incorrectly labeled them and their distributors followed suit. I’ve personally verified this.

I’d advise against paying full retail for these, tons of guys in here rip these off with only a few hundred miles and will sell cheap...

I have lower back issues & leather is easier for me to slide my butt around on. Aftermarket leather seats are often made with much softer, more supple leather then OEM.

I would just order from Bilstein's aftermarket line. I love my 6112 / 5160 combo on my 1st gen. Wheeler's carries a good selection.

+1 on the cloth being more comfortable. Wife and I will drive 500 miles in a day several days in a row and the cloth in the Tundra has proven to be much more comfortable than any leather we've had before.

Do note: they're harder to keep clean, but easy to clean up. The cloth in the Tundra likes to soak up any drip and spread it out into a half dollar sized blot. Nothing a little fabric cleaner and shop vac cant solve, but still more effort than wiping leather off. The trade in comfort is well worth it though for us.

I thought I was okay going from leather to cloth, but I’m surely going to get some Katzkins at some point.

IMG_1053.jpg I covered the cloth seats in my '02 with Wet Okole seat covers back in '03, they still look new today. I installed another set on my '07 cloth seats, very comfortable and they so much wear better than leather.

I don't like leather. I have had it on many previous vehicles and my wife has it on her car, but I prefer cloth. That was one of the reasons for picking the Sport, along with no chrome.

Ah right, but I meant how hard was the cover to install on it? Pretty straightforward? Looks like maybe you didn't install the backrest piece?

Right, yeah it's pretty simple to install just pay attention to how you route the adjustable straps under the seats. There is a top half for the center seat back, but I only installed the bottom.
