The OEM has the red stitching; there is no other option.
It is not really noticeable after a while, as it faces towards the front.
I never gave it a second thought after installing mine.
Even the cheap copies on Amazon have the red stitching.
You could always take a black Sharpie and try to black out the stitching. :eek2::rolleyes:o_O:cool:

Don’t laugh, but follow me here…

Grab a piece of freshly laid black dyed mulch and rub it on the stitching.

That’s what I did years ago (never touched it up) and it did a very good job on dying the red stitches.

I’ll snap a photo later, but the entire knob is blacked out now.

You could always take a marker and color the red thread black.

    And smells like poo......
    ;)

Just kidding. I owned a landscaping business for awhile and some of the mulch had "fertilizer" in it.
    It was wonderful spreading that......:puke:

    I've always bought the OEM.
I can't believe you don't already have one of these.:eek2:
It is one of my favorite mods out of thousands of dollars I've spent on mods on my 2014...

I'm a little surprised myself! :rofl:I've thought about it a couple of times.

Yeah, my hand rides there too. Is the TRD shifter a little bit shorter?

    How much is the OEM?

I think it might be shorter; I don't have the truck anymore.
I hated the stock 2X4 shifter, the TRD has a much better angle for the palm of your hand.

OEM isn't cheap, I just don't know the quality of the Amazon knock-offs.
For some reason, the silver is cheaper than the black..

Shop around, and you may find a better price and shipping fees.

I'm actually thinking I like the $20 black knock-off better than the $76 (Amazon) black/silver Toyota if the copy is decent quality.

I'm happy with the black knock-off one I got from Amazon. Only issue was it didn't want to tighten down like the original one, so I added a little blue thread locker to it. Feels and looks much better that the original.

    Good to know, thanks.

How long have you had it on, material (I'm assuming fake leather?) holding up okay?

I like $20 better than $80 for sure!

Also on the OEM, not sure about the knock-offs, there is a Phillips head screw up the hole..:eek2:
A few times, I had to stick a long-handled #2 Phillips screwdriver in it to tighten up a little play.
But not too tight, I'm sure it goes into plastic.

I think one time I put a little Teflon tape on the shaft threads, not sure if it did anything.
When I blacked out my dash/comsole, I put black shrink wrap on the shaft and heated it to get rid of all the chrome..

The dash/console chrome delete was also a favorite mod.
Most of it was AJT stuff.

I've had it almost 5 years now and it's not really showing any signs of wear. I rest my hand on it all the time. The one I got is not available anymore but that's typical of the chineseum stuff. And yes, $20 is more better!

No TRD logo, but for $20 it looks pretty good, we'll see how it wears.

Feels just a touch fatter in my hand than I'd consider "perfect" (only when grabbing to shift out of park) but way more comfortable resting my hand on it while driving, and feels fine shifting in "S" mode.

Looks better, and I feel like it has to add at least 3 HP.

    Before:

    20260305_181438.jpg

And $20 at Amazon later: That'll work.

Now the more I look at it, I think the blackout kit for the cupholder and shiftgate like @1lowlife has is definitely in order soon.

Meso Customs has a blackout kit too if you don't like the cap-head look. It's also a nice touch to hits the shiny black piece around the shifter with some matte clear coat.

Hmmm... I'm torn. I've worked for a fastener distributor for 20+ years so I don't mind looking at cap screw heads.

I see Meso customs has "The Ulitmate Map Light" replacements too.

Why is Toyota so stingy with the lumens?! All my Toyotas have had super anemic map/dome lights.

I tried those Meso map lights in my 2014.
They are too bright for me, and I sold them.
And the red lights reminded me of Roxanne.
Although I did replace all my 2014 interior bulbs with LEDs.

I just purchased a Meso rear dome light from another member for my 2026.
I should arrive in a couple of days.
The 2026 rear dome light is like a candle..:eek2:

Is it an LED that plugs in the Halogen socket, so you still use the reflector and stuff?

    Amazon or what? Easy install?

Yeah, I don't know that I'd ever use the Red.
I mean I guess maybe if I was in an apocalyptic scenario (Slightly less unlikely than it was a couple weeks ago) where I'm doing nighttime stealth missions behind the lines, but otherwise I don't see a need in my truck.

Ha, good eye. So that's kind of a multi-faceted amalgamation of a few things.

So in surfing culture there's a popular expression that "Eddie would go".

Eddie Aikau was a very humble but accomplished Hawaiian big wave surfer. He was known among his peers for his willingness to turn and go on waves that nobody else wanted anything to do with.

He was also the very first lifeguard at Waimea Bay, a big wave spot on Oahu's north shore, credited with making over 500 rescues in HEAVY waves and losing zero souls while on duty.

In 1978 he joined the Hokulea,a 60-foot replica of a Polynesian voyaging canoe, for a 2,400-mile sailing journey from Hawaii to Tahiti, using ancient navigational techniques only.
On March 17, the boat capsized 20 miles west of Lanai, and the crew lost all provisions and telecommunications. Aikau decided to paddle his board toward Lanai to get help. But he was never seen again.

However, after his passing, Aikau slowly became one of the greatest references in Hawaiian culture, alongside Duke Kahanamoku.

With the new age of big wave surfing, the surf industry felt they needed to honor the life of Hawaii's surfing hero.

The first Quiksilver Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational was held in the winter of 1985/1986 at Waimea Bay. The unique contest requirement was that waves had to be 20 feet or bigger.

That's 20' on the Hawaiian scale, which means they'll only run the contest, known simply as "The Eddie" if the waves are 40' faces or bigger. Most years it doesn't even run because the waves aren't big enough.

When the organizers were deciding whether to raise the green flag, Mark Foo exclaimed, "Eddie Would Go." The expression stuck, and the contest got underway.

Once the "Eddie would go" phrase got popular, it got picked up and paraphrased for lots of other things.

Now Chango, he's another cultural icon in the San Diego surf world.

As far back as I can remember (I started surfing in '75) when we'd go down to Mexico to surf, when you're in the line to cross the Tijuana border and they're trying to sell you all the gaudy velvet paintings, cool Mexican blankets, Chicle, etc. there was always the cool ugly surfing monkey piggy banks. Cross the border enough, he grows on you, and you'll eventually buy one. At some point, he got named Chango.

So this sticker is kind of a blend of the two.

It's from a surf/SUP/paddle sports shop I do business with.

I'd heard of Eddie, but did not have as much detail and context. Thank you!!
