I installed a TRD Pro grille on my 2020 limited. The lights immediately came on that I needed to contact my dealer. The dealer looked and spent almost $300 to tell me that I need a different TSS sensor. I’m baffled by this. How many TSS sensors a could there possibly be on a 2020 Tundra? Seems like a waste of engineering to make more than one sensor on a truck when they all do the same thing. I’m completely at a loss. The dealer says I need to spend $720 plus tax to fix it. Toyota gives their same bullshit response of don’t change anything out
on our trucks. Starting to wish I’d never bought this damn thing. Anybody have any ideas?? I’m completely at a loss. Toyota basically tells me they stand behind their dealers and whatever they say is right. I truly don’t know what to do.

    Pictures would help.
What grill did you put on?
    Did you disconnect the battery?
Can't tell where you mounted the TSS without pictures.
    Dealer is full of BS.

I agree. A bit more detail can help get a solution on this.

Ah my bad. It’s a TRD Pro grille. And I installed it with the factory TSS sensor cover. So both the grille and the cover are Toyota original equipment. I didn’t relocate it put it where it’s designed to go on the pro which is basically the same spot as it was on the limited grille. I can take pics if you want but the grille is a factory TRD pro with the factory cover. I just don’t understand how they’re coming up with multiple sensors and that they can’t calibrate the sensor.

So if you did use the 2019 grill you have to relocate the TSS to the lower spot and attach it to the grill with that cover. It should work without any issues.
Is anything blocking the sensor cover?
I would still like to see a picture to rule anything out.

Silly question, is the plug snapped into place completely?

Nope nothing blocking it. My dad has been a mechanic for 45 plus years and helped me install it. We installed it exactly like the old one was installed. It’s just in the new location because of where the sensor sets. Is there any way it will reset itself after being driven? I can send some pics in a bit.

Go to a different dealership and tell them you sensor is acting up. It should be fixed for free, you used genuine Toyota parts.

Definitely weird since all OEM parts and the grill you chose has the spot for it. Not knowing what the plug looks like did you check it to make sure none of the prongs were bent in the switch?

u should go back to the dealer and have them refund your money. if u used genuine parts they should be under warranty.

I called Toyota corporate and they gave me the song and dance about not changing parts out. I’m like they’re genuine Toyota parts. They read me the statement again. It was worthless.

The per-collision system light comes on and says to see dealer. The cruise control fails too.

I wonder if the sensor location is lower on the trd pro grille since the trd pro comes with a 2” front lift. Is your truck leveled/lifted? I put a 2019+ trd pro grille on my 2020 SR5 and had no issues but this was after I had installed a leveling kit....I’m sorry for your troubles.

It is lower on TRD Pro grille. I’ve got it at a dealership and the tech said he’s done these before so my fingers are crossed he can get it to recalibrate. It’s taking a long time so that’s making me very nervous.

I’m glad this is funny to you. I’m stressing out. I had no idea it was going to be such an ordeal to swap out a Toyota OE grille and OE cover. It really isn’t fun. Especially when they’re going to charge me through the nose to fix it if the calibration doesn’t work.

No it’s not. My wife couldn’t get in it if it were lifted. She’s got a form of muscular dystrophy and has a hard time getting in as it is.

I believe plenty of people have done this swap. You need a TSS relocation bracket to not get the indication lights

So does this go on as well as the sensor cover? The tech said he thought he could calibrate it as it was as the sensor fits into the new grille.

The tech at the Toyota dealership in Wichita was able to get it to calibrate. Sounds like he had to do it twice but got it. Thanks all.
