Approaching 51,000 miles on my 2018 so I'm getting ready to do a trans drain and fill. This will be my first trans service I've ever done on any vehicle. I'm planning on getting this kit I've linked below and using Ravenol's ATF WS fluid to replace the 5.5-6 qts that I drain from the pan. I use Ravenol in my diffs and TC and it seems like very high quality stuff. The Ravenol kit below is very convenient because it comes with everything needed for the job. I'm unable to find a similar kit that includes Toyota ATF WS fluid. My concern is mixing the new Ravenol with the existing Toyota ATF WS that's currently in the transmission. My research tells me it would be fine but I'm looking for opinions. I know I'll get some mixed feedback. Has any one else used this kit? Thanks for reading.

Both fluids are the same spec so mixing them will not be an issue.
Do you need to change the filter so early or just do a drain and fill?

Good question. Can’t find any literature that advises a replacement interval for the filter and/or pan gasket, but all the YT videos I see, people are doing both.

Maybe just change the fluid and do the filter and pan gasket at 100k?

Never drop the pan unless there is a reason to. Under normal circumstances, there will never be a reason.

Drain and fill is about all you will ever need to do. If you start messing with the pan bolts, you will likely be breaking off at least one and there is no problem with the filter in there. Plus you might bend the pan to the point that it will likely leak even if you don't break any bolts off. It's not rocket science, but there is no reason to screw with something that is fine while you are somewhat inexperienced. If you don't take my advice, be careful and think each step through carefully.

I wouldn't buy that kit, its very easy to source all those parts through here https://parts.toyota.com/ just put in the part numbers and find the dealer selling for cheapest and order everything from them, WS is pretty darn cheap for an OEM fluid, not really worth buying aftermarket. Also you might be okay with dropping the pan if that truck has always been in Georgia but if its ever been in a state were they salt the pan bolts are famous for snapping. I broke one myself. If you're dead set on doing it hit them with PB blaster every day for a week and use a torch to heat them before removing and if one is giving you a hard time, stop and give it even more heat and PB. Getting the broken piece out is an absolute pain. If you'd like to see the adventure I had doing this here is my thread on it https://www.tundras.com/threads/my-transmission-pan-adventure.110777/

If you do just a drain and fill without the pan and filter you'll need 4qts if you do the pan and filter you'll need at least 6 but I'd have 7 just incase. I put 7 in when I did it and got 3/4 a qt back out.

    Part numbers
    ATF WS - 00289ATFWS
    Gasket - 3516834020
    Filter - 3533060070
    Filter - O-Ring 9030131014

Good information here. I am going to drain and fill my trans fluid before putting on trans skid plate and cat guards. Anyone have a link for the drain/refill process?

Going for it one of these weekends, dropping the pan and changing filter, cleaning off magnets. I only have about 32k on the truck, hopefully pan bolts will not be an issue. Would like to get them out and coated with anti seize paste.

I have Ravenol is all of my diffs, but when I did a full trans flush I used Aisin WS fluid. It's super affordable straight from Rock Auto: https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/aisin,ATF0WS,transmission+fluid,11387

As others have stated, I WOULD NOT drop the pan unless you absolutely have to. The pans bolts are notorious for breaking off and I don't believe it's worth the headache.

If you want to do a larger fluid exchange, it's fairly easy to do a full flush using nothing more than the transmission's own pump. This is what I did, and it was fairly straight forward. I believe I bought 15 or 16 quarts of WS fluid from Rock Auto and used nearly all of it. This guy had a very comprehensive video which was extremely helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB8MdGgwg68

Recently removed my pan bolts to apply anti seize on them. Had no issue removing them at all.

I add similar mileage and broke one. I live New England where they salt a lot. Here's my story with it.

Haha I honestly cannot imagine that. The first thing I did when I saw my truck was climb underneath of it. I actually brought a creeper with me to get a better look

I agree with those stating the ATF filter doesn't need to be changed at this low mileage, nor the magnets cleaned. You can get the kit and save the filter for later. I wouldn't replace until 100K if the filter media is paper/felt. If a metal mesh media, I’d go 150K. For other ATF alternatives look at Aisin or Idemitsu WS to avoid the dealer markup on Toyota WS. If you are going to do a flush, I’d switch to Valvoline Maxlife.
