How did you get the Engine oil temperature to show?
I have obd fusion and it does not register any temp using the built in one.

Correct, the standard PID that came with the base app showed 0*.

If I went into the manufacturer-specific PIDs -I bought the 2021 Toyota pack, there was another engine oil temp, which seems to be accurate (based on startup temps, etc.)

I’ve tried long-pressing in photo 1 and going into the widget settings (photo 2), but can’t see the actual instructions/code.

any idea how to get the PID?

Oh maybe I thought you had to enter it manually from somewhere. I decided to buy it since I plan on keeping the truck as long as I can.
I will fiddle with it after work more and see if I can post the pids or something.

I’ve always read Toyota doesn’t have an oil temp sensor in the 4.6/5.7 design.

What kind of engine oil temps do you guys see regularly, towing and unloaded?

I recall coming from a Ram previously that engine oil temp was by far it's highest temp across the board - 20-30' higher than coolant temp in almost all conditions.

Towing 4000lb trailer , usually around 215 , I noticed it stays less then pan temps in couple of degrees .
That was before the cooler installation.
Next summer will be towing a new trailer around 6000lb but this time I have the trans cooler , would be interesting to see what I get

Based on my drive to work, it stayed pretty much in line with my trans temps(it is cool and damp out so it it got to around 180 and didn't go any higher)

I will try a longer city trip after work.

You must just be doing stop and go driving for a short distance because my transmission is never under 200 deg without the cooler if I’m on the highway. The average pan temp on flat ground is between 205-210 at highway speeds and if there’s grades it gets to 220 pretty easily, this of course is with no trailer.

Mebbe your transmission has a non-critical internal flaw resulting in more heat being generated.

I believe that is a feature added to trucks in higher altitude markets. If you decline connected services they cut the feature.

Naah too many other people have posted their temps and they mirror mine. I think some people just put around short distances not even working the engine or trans and then look at the temps and report them. Hit the highway for 20 min at 75 mph and no way they stay under 200.

    I dunno...

Could be a bean counting move in the valve spools causing a clutch to drag...

So far, or as long as I had the Scan gauge installed, it takes my truck about 40 plus minutes to get above 200 and then it settles right in at 203 with some small fluctuations depending if I leave cruise control on or not in the mountains. I have never seen my pan go above 210 yet.

We should feel good the 2021 didn't get coolers. Mike Sweeney said the new 2022 10 speed transmission need a cooler. Heat is generated due to inefficiency. Pretty clear to me that the new 10 speed isn't as efficient as the old 6 speed without a cooler. Toyota went backwards, very disappointing.

2nd Ike Gauntlet Run of the 2022 Tundra just posted by TFL.
Trans Temp on the Ten Speed ran 231 vs 246 for the 2021.

it was 10-15 degrees cooler ambient temps for the 2022….

also, did they just say that the 2022’s cooler is basically an improved hockey puck?

One thing I saw showed the puck is on the radiator now instead of on the transmission, but there are also lines going into the radiator so it looks like it could be integrated as well. I'm just going off of looks though as I'm not 100% on how it works.

I’ll have to rewatch but I thought they said it’s “right next to the transmission”.
It looked very similar to Fords hockey puck. F150’s are also not running lines to the radiator for the transmission, since 2018 I believe.

edit: confirmed. They said passenger side, not near/with the radiator.

there may yet be an opportunity for Nick to develop an old style aux cooler up front if folks aren’t comfortable with those temps

edit2: Asimov2025 confirmed below me the puck is behind the radiator.

The lines on the 2019-2021 go to the radiator from the puck and act as a transmission warmer. 2019-2021 the puck is mounted on the transmission and 2022 the puck is mounted to the radiator. For 2022 it looks like they ran long lines from the transmission to the puck at the radiator and short radiator to puck lines. Net gain zero over the 2019-2021 models. Just moved the puck.

On the new tfl they show the trans temps about 15 degrees cooler than the old truck, but it's also winter. I would like to see how that compares to other trucks and in the summer time. I believe were around 231 on the Ike.

Video of the 22 Tundra on the Ike Gauntlet. 231 trans temp vs 246 on the old tundra. Would be interested to know the starting Trans temp for the previous model when they ran this test. This video the trans is already at 197 when they start the climb

So the Toyota drawing is incorrect? Oh well. I would love to see the correct drawing that shows it.

My 2019 has lines from the water radiator that goes to my transmission puck so I guess my transmission also has a cooler like the 2022 cooler.

So looks like the warmer was moved to the front , it is unclear if there is a thermostat in there that let the trans oil flow to radiator.
Doesn’t look like much difference between the 19-21 and 22 tundra trans temp
