Hey everyone. I was driving down the road today and I heard a weird metal grinding sound and it stopped really quick. I stop at a red light and then I hear it again. It sounds like a brake pad but then as the light turns green I hit the acceleration and it revs up super high but took forever to actually move. I pull off into a parking lot and try switching gears. It wouldn’t move in reverse nor drive. I turned it off and check my tranny fluid which was full. I turn it back on and put it into low gear and it moved and then I put it back into drive and it moved just fine. I got all the way home with no issues. However I parked it and tried putting it in reverse but it wouldn’t budge. It’s clearly the transmission but has anyone witnessed this before and fixed it ?

That’s kinda what happened on a Camry my sister had, haha out in the woods of corse. But towed it to a trannys shop and said the tranny was bad bla bla. Dolly towed it home, dropped the pan, replaced the filter screen and pan gasket, filled it, it ran great but my dad sold it immediately

Doesn’t sound good based on hearing this same story from others. Could be catastrophic failure inside. Suggest taking it to a Transmission Specialist. They can rebuild it BETTER than new for $3-4k or you can take a chance and buy a used junkyard one and drop it in for $1-1.5k. Rolling dice.

I have a 95 4Runner, when I bought it I changed all the fluids. I took it somewhere and did the transmission flush thing where they hook it to a machine and swap all the fluid while it’s running. Had same issues as you w transmission after that. I dropped the pan and changed the filter, filled it back up s Walmart brand fluid. Haven’t had any issues w it since. Before you dump a bunch of money into it, try dropping the pan and replacing the filter. It’ll be a little messy but only cost you a gasket/filter kit and a few quarts of fluid.

Yeah, that sucks. Mine did the exact same thing, but it was low on tranny juice. Put more in and it was fine. I'd do what others have said and drop the pan and poke around. Maybe your filter is clogged.
