Today 12 miles from home, stopped at a light and made a left turn. Trans acted like it didn't want to shift to high. Down the road when I come to a hill, it seemed to have trouble shifting. When it finally got back up to speed it started jerking but would eventually go to drive. Repeated that several times. Finally made it home. Checked trans fluid and it was about 1" above hot mark. About an hour later I drove it around the block and everything seemed fine then drove it about 15 miles to town and back. No problems.
One thing I did observe was that the RPM did not change when it was hunting but RPM would increase once it finally downshifted

Anyone ever had this happen. Worked fine on that trip to town

Explain your method for checking the fluid.

Standard fluid check process for your '00-'02 involves getting up to temp, and while on level ground, with the engine running, pull the dip stick, wipe it off, reinsert, pull the dip stick, and read against the HOT line. If you recently changed fluid, or you want to be thorough, shift thru all your gears before pulling the dipstick.

Did exactly as you posted. Don't have any idea when the oil might have been changed. Truck has 208K so probably needs it. With everything hot and ran through the gears was reading at least 3/4" above hot mark
No problem again since that happened
    Thanks for the reply

I'd get that fluid level correct. Improper level (high or low) can result in weird behavior.

Do I think it's the actual cause? 50/50 on whether it's the case. But always best to rule out by correcting something that looks to be incorrect than it is to keep running with something incorrect.
