Im currently in the process of fixing up an old utility trailer. I put new tires on it and it’s in good shape. With it being so old, it has been wired to the old 6 pole round and was only used with an old Chevy. I bought the adapter to hook from the trailer to the 7 blade on our trucks.

I’m not very experienced with this and hope it’s something easy, but my lights are jacked up. My brake lights work, and 4 way flashers work. When i turn either signal on, both rear trailer lights flash, like they were the flashers. My normal running lights also don’t run on the trailer.

The adapter i bought has the led test lights, and looks like it’s sending signal to the correct part (left turn, right turn, etc) just the trailer lights aren’t corresponding right. Could it be a loose wire in the current pole or maybe i need to get a new 6 pole and rewire it?

    Double check all your connections.

I’ll pull the end off of the 6 pole and look at them. The one above is what is coming out of my truck, so it should be wired that way.

So I got the old connector off and had to cut as it was rusted. I’ve only got 4 wires coming out of the trailer to the plug. They are old so I can’t tell the colors really as the sheaths were falling apart. I’ll crawl under it later to see the colors, but Here is a picture of it wired. It’s looking at it with the top up.

I’m wondering if I might be better off just buying the 4 flat connector and using it instead.

If all you are running is lights, flat 4 is all thats needed.

You folks have some red dirt out there!

    Flat 4 is easy.

Your problem is most likely a ground and if the wiring is that crusty you're probably better off buying a whole new light set than chasing problems.

I think I’ll pick up the flat 4. It was originally wired for my dads 1980 Chevy, when that was his only truck. That one is currently not running and even if it was, very unlikely we would pull anything with it.
