Is the traction control in the transmission or can it be replaced or fixed outside of the transmission?

If your light is on, check your codes. Trac light comes on for other issues.

If you don’t have a code reader, see if a local parts store will do it for you for free. I think autozone will. Toyota will want to charge you a diagnostic fee.

You'll need to buy a code reader. $20 or so at walmart.

Edit: i forgot about autozone. Just ask and they will pull the code. Takes just a few moments.

Is there a particular brand or type of code reader to look for (brands or types to look for or to avoid)?

Theres alot of brands available now, but the inexpensive ones seem to be pretty similar.

They all use the same data base for generic codes. Manufacture specific codes, i wouldnt know, but autozone's code readers i assume can be updated with any codes that the manufacturers have made available.

Oh yeah, if you do decide to buy a scan tool/code reader, you'll probably want one that also reads ABS codes.

Thanks to all thst had helped with this issue of mine. I think it all started day before yesterday when I punched brakes hard when a deer jumped infront of me. I noticed brakes seemed to grab and pull to 1 side and didn't notice or pay attention to dash then but did notice light on dash later that day..

    I got a scangauge 2. I think it was about $100.

If light came on after slamming on brakes maybe it’s a stuck caliper? I’d think if your abs activated and broke then you’d have an abs light on too.

I will have to check dash on that. Have to get back from shop. They want $3000 to fix what it may be, gas cap or air valve. Ha

Bill says "declined"! $2521.99 is why I declined.

Pretty sure that the air injection pump issue. Fairly common. There are threads on here about it. Toyota will want a lot of $ out of warranty, but there are alternatives.

Search around for Secondary Air Injection System, SAIS, Air Injection System, and variants thereof.

Well fellow members, I want to thank you all for your suggestions and the YouTubes that I have watched. I finally stumbled across a suggestion that "SOLVED" my pocketbook from being "sucked" dry again by a dealership that is for themselves instead of the customer. That is "WHO" keeps them in business. If we had a list of the dealerships that fit this catagory and people let it be known, do you think it would change?

I forgot to mention my solution that saved me $2566.99.

DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY FOR 30MIN TO REBOOT THE ELECTRONIC MOTHERBOARD AS THEY CALL IT.

The same thing happened to me when I forgot to connect one spark plug wire during a plug change. Dash lit up like a christmas tree when I started engine. Disconnecting battery for half an hour fixed it all.
