    Hey guys - newbie here

Just bought my silver 2020 CM 4X4 TRD this past Friday and I couldn’t be more excited. Coming from a 2006 TRD 2WD Tacoma with a rear AAL and shocks (way too stiff) and a spacer on the front with stock UCAs. She was my baby for 13 years, but she rode like a friggin square-wheeled buggy towed by a three-legged horse. Wanting to lift my tundra and maintain the ride quality. I know I want to clear 295/70/18s with minimal trimming, so I am shooting for a 3/1.5 ~ ish lift. Seriously considering the Toytec BOSS coilover set to 3.0 on the front, but I don’t know what to do for the back or for my UCAs. Full disclosure here, this will be a certified road queen other than hunting and camping on the weekends. Please don’t kill me if these exact questions have been covered- I’ve been reading for days and I honestly feel more confused than ever.

My specific questions are as follows...

Can I swing stock UCAs TEMPORARILY with the BOSS coilovers at 3.0”?

Can I use the stock TRD setup shocks with just a 1.5 shackle, or do I need longer rear shocks right now?

Do I really need to spend all this money, or should I be looking at other options for my intended purposes?

Any personal experience is greatly appreciated. Thank y’all so much in advance.

Welcome...lots of better options for your needs! Billy 5150’s? I’ve got the boss kit with factory UCA’s. They work but to do it right you probably should get UCA’s?

It might be tough to get a proper alignment with stock UCAs and a 3” lift. You will probably get mixed feedback, I did Zone UCAs with my 3” ToyTec.

Probably a bad idea to run stock shocks in the rear with a 1.5” lift.

    yes, yes you can
yes you will need longer shocks.
I chose the Toytec setup first with TC UCAs. now 4 years later, I am going back to Kings and either AAL or full Deavers. prolly AAL because all I really want is less body roll and a better ride and don't really put things in the back that are heavy. YMMV

I'm going to let the poop fly here an say that if your driving on the street an just going for looks an bigger tires. May be worth just getting a cheaper spacer lift. Tons of people use them, but a ton will try to steer you away. I spent a fair amount on toytec aluma series for my Tundra because I wanted to feel cool with a nice lift an had always run spacers an wanted to know why people blow money on this stuff . At the end of the day I spent a bunch of money just to feel cool.. An I'm okay admitting that.. They were great don't get me wrong.. But in contrast my buddies run a toytec spacer and add a leaf for years with no issue an rides just fine.. An he is in it a few hundred bucks vs a few grand.. But it's all about what you want to do with your money . Just offering a different perspective..

    Well said.

I have been running a spacer upfront for 3 years, no alignment or any issues to be honest, and does decent in the mountains. My rig is 95% a pavement princess that i keep shined up.. not gonna lie about it...

Once my factory blue and yellow trd off road package shocks die I plan to upgrade but gonna keep rocking the front spacer till then.

Rear I did shackle and leaf pack for when I haul shit. I loaded a full pallet of mulch and it dropped maybe an inch. I ditched the rear block like a week after I got it installed on my truck.

Dang, thanks for the quick responses guys! Sounds like there is a ton of controversy surrounding this whole topic. Glad I’ve got a couple different knowledgeable perspectives now because the full-size truck game is completely new to me.

I know it’s lame, but it seems like my road queen will be better suited (at least temporarily) with a spacer lift to retain the stock UCAs and either an add a leaf or new leaf pack and longer shocks on rear? I’m not a fan of body roll and my last truck bounced a lot in the bed, so I’d like to avoid that.

Still open to coil overs and UCAs, but I don’t want to spend an entire paycheck on just the suspension for something that will never see rocks like my old Cherokee (still miss that thing.. she would flex like a mother).

So as far as body roll is concerned, what’s the best way to minimize that while lifting the rear?

I ran a spacer kit before. Now I have the Toytec Aluma 2.5 coilovers, SPC UCA's, Boss rear shocks with resis, Toytec shackles set at 1.5, and 1/2 axle shims. That puts me at about 4 in the front and 2 rear. I run 285/70/18 on a 0 offset which is within 1/2 inch of the 295/70. The 285 is 10 pounds per tire lighter.

Get the TRD rear sway bar, helps a lot with the body roll. I have one with my +2 shackles in the rear.

    Sick truck!

Here's a look at my rig with the 3 inch spacer up front:
    20201126_124531.jpg

I will be upgrading eventually but until then I'm rocking it 3.5 years, no issues, perfect alignment with stock uca. I hate wasting money, I wait til things need replacing to upgrade. I ran stock 265/70r18 street tires till they needed replacing then upgraded. That's just me tho, others here will say stay away from spacers. To each their own brother, just enjoy and keep us posted with pix

I have the trd rear sway, get it and you will be sit man

@Ted4311 which rear spring pack did you go with? Factory shocks in the back too or extended?

really love the look of your setup! Looks “super stock” - which is what I’m going for

    Welcome to the party!!!!!

Can I swing stock UCAs TEMPORARILY with the BOSS coilovers at 3.0”?
You can run the stock uppers at the 3'' mark but you will suffer a low caster spec which could equate to bump steer feeling and swaying while driving.

Can I use the stock TRD setup shocks with just a 1.5 shackle, or do I need longer rear shocks right now?
I've seen people run the 1.5'' setting back there with the rear TRD shocks as you have, wouldn't personally recommend taking it to much off road until you replace the shocks as the stroke length within the shock will not be long enough and could top you/ separate the shock rod/ shock body from each other.

Do I really need to spend all this money, or should I be looking at other options for my intended purposes?
Give us a call, my sales team can build you and spec out the perfect kit for you within your budget no problem! 303-255-4959.

I am running the Toytec Boss kit at 3/1.5 with 295/70/18. The same setup you are inquiring about. I did do the SPC UCA’s at the same time due to the suspension already taken apart. 8k miles of all types of terrain without a hiccup!!! Ask away.

@Ted4311 is running the stock TRD wheels. I’m not sure what tires sizes he is running. I want to say wheel spacers may be needed to run the stock TRD wheels.

My Methods are +25 offset. The only slight rubbing I had was on the front finder liner which was taken care of with a heat gun and tennis ball.
