First, this place has been informative and pushed me over the edge. Never owned a Toyota,
Last night I bought a New Tundra, SR5 with the TRD package. Actually been a couple months of “keep the old paid off truck” or buy new thinking.

Anyway, my dealer will sell me the 10 year/125k mile extended warranty for 3000.00.
I’ll likely not hit 125k miles but will probably have this at least ten years.

    thoughts?

whoa! $3k !?! that's way too expensive. I got an 8 year / 80k mile extended warranty for $1k (I know others have paid less). You can haggle with them or you can shop around and get a lower price.

I drove my 2010 from December 2009 until June 2020. 147,000 miles. I did 1 thing to it besides oil and tires and that was brakes. My 2019 has the same engine, tranny, etc.. so I figure I am good until at least 140,000 before I need to do anything to my truck. If I had a Chevy or Ford or Dodge, I would probably buy the warranty.

I have to shop around, but that is the Toyota top end extended warranty. Covers nearly everything.

I got the extended warranty on my 2020. I felt like I got ripped off on it, 9 years 125,000 for 2000, until I think of all the electronics on these new vehicles. I do not usually work on my vehicle besides very basic maintenance. I had a 2007 and never needed the extended warranty. We haven’t had a blizzard since I bought my snow blower. I’m okay with that.

Idk about you but I bought Toyota so I wouldn’t have to get the extended warranty.

My last two Tundra's went for over 240k each, with minimal repairs. Timing belts and one starter. Plus normal wear and tear items, like brakes and tires. I doubt I have 3k in repairs not wear related in the last 7 years or so. So I would pass for sure, and did when I bought my current Tundra

If you can get a good deal, and you would like the peace of mind, go for it. I'd rather stockpile the cash and wait for the possibility of a repair. You guys remember that most ditch their Tundras due to boredom right? Lol. I've planned on 500k. So what if a starter goes. The interest on the investment (Tundra and cash set aside) will more than pay for the repairs.

I know, I bought this thing instead of a UAW made truck due to the Toyota reputation for reliability.
Probably gonna pass on it, but still considering it. A couple of bad experiences with GM products failing right after warranty are what have me even thinking about it. But, GM is GM.

I have never bought an extended warranty on a Toyota. This Tundra is my 5th Toyota in a row and I have never needed it. Other 4 had more than 100,000 miles when I sold/traded them, or some I still own. Tundra is at 80,000 miles.
At $3,000 each I would have spent $15,000 in extended warranties. So, even if something catastrophic happens with the Tundra or other 2 that I still have (Camry and Prius), and say it $5,000 to repair, I am still $10,000 ahead.

Chrysler, GM or Ford, different story..... I won't own a Chrysler regardless of warranty, and GM and Ford I would spend the money on the warranty, from experience.

Just say NO to the dealer trying to sell you one when you buy the vehicle! $3000 is a huge ripoff! I bet they want to roll it into your payments and they start enticing you with different monthly payment scenarios? You have until the factory warranty expires to get an extended warranty - gives you time to shop around and find the best deal.

I had Yukon's and Tahoes. Motor mounts, electronics, fuel pumps, peeling dashboards, door handles falling off. It's tough once you've been bit. That's over now though. Your drama days are over.... Welcome "to the real world" Neo. :)

I've had seven (7) new-from-the-dealer Toyotas in the last 35 years. Never once bought an extended warranty. Never once wished I had (my '17 Tundra is at 69,000 miles and doing just fine).

Good input. I’ll pass on that. My 3k will go toward truck stuff.

Also an FYI. You have until your 3/36 runs out to buy it. So don’t get rushed into it

Take that $3000 and put it in a CD and after 5~10 years there is a few bucks towards you next truck. If you have some kind of repair use that $3000 toward the repair. I have had Toyotas since 1980 and my biggest repair was on my 2004 Camry I put in a water pump at 272,000 miles. I'm not gonna bet on my truck having a problem.

Your not going to have any major problems inside of 125k so I would say no. Also, aftermarket warranties are known for being junk. Literally some of them go to a junkyard and pull parts to satisfy warranty claims.

Nice truck and welcome! Skip the warranty and use that money for a leveling kit, tires, and tonneau cover.

I bought a 10yr/125k warranty for my 4Runner through a dealer in AZ that a lot of the guys on the T4R forum went through. I think I paid around $1,300 for it. I sold my 4Runner at 86k miles and got a $550 refund back from Toyota for the unused warranty amount.

That’s what I was planning to do but peace of mind won over a Softopper. I’ll get the Softopper in April. Last year they went on sale for the whole month. Hopefully, they will do it again.

Most recently saved about 6k on my 14 tundra with 93k on the odo.

Paid about 1.2k for my 8yr/100k iirc.

It has since saved me close to 7k overall.
