Hey crew, want to make something out of thin metal but I need to have some details cuts in it (angles and a design). Besides a jig saw with a metal blade, anyone have something they recommend? I am trying to do this on a budget since this is purely for fun.

 

Rent a plasma cutter for a few hours or a day.

 

Depends on what the words 'detail' and 'budget' mean, but some combination of snips and punches might get the job done.

Remember, I’m a technophobe. I still dont own a blue ray player, and just got my smartphone last year. I have the working vhs/dvd combo with surround sound

 

Those are at my parents house. I was 8 when the show came out

 

I have the final battle dvd as well, I’m just at game 3 of a triple header baseball day so I can’t grab a pic

 

Time to upgrade to a blue ray/dvd player/recorder.

If you ever need a VHS player you can pick up a working one at Savers for $5.

 

A little bit more detail would help. How thin is the metal and how intricate are the required cuts?

 

I'm trying to make a custom hitch cover. Haven't figured everything out yet. Just brain storming but the tools will factor in how detailed I can go.

Would a Dremel work? A cutting wheel and a cutting bit might be able to do what you want.

Working your way up the spectrum from thin sheet to 1/4” plate, you can go through tin snips, nibbler, dremel tools, plasma cutter and right angle grinder.

 

Whoa, whoa there! Mine is white and there are a couple of muscle carvheads here that can verify it’s the fastest color!! It’s either that or own up to the fact that they suck as drivers. I’m going with fastest color. Of course, I bought used and know the guy that traded it and he bought new.

 

Hockey season starts this week! So I was looking at getting a new hitch cover. This one looks good but the seller on ebay is wanting $70!!! Figured at that price I could make my own. Have a few other concepts in work but this is the one that will get made first.

 

Robert, there’s several ways to skin that cat, but if it were me, I’d use 1/16” plate and make almost all the cuts with a little right angle grinder. The little bit remaining, like the inside curve would not take long with a jigsaw

 

Yeah, that's a pretty simple design, mostly straight cuts. A grinder would be fine.

Well… Since they're the Pups, I'm already a fan!!!! Congrats on the first game… Howz he feeling w/the new team; is it pretty seamless for him, or is he kinda learning the nuances of the new club??

BTW… Pujols jacked his 699th and 700th HRs last night against the Dodgers!!!!

 

He is loving it. He has 2 friends he has been playing with since t-ball on the team and the rest of the kids he has been seeing around town the last couple years at all star tournaments (we have kids from 5 different little leagues) so it’s like a forces unite feeling for them. The new coach is a good as they come (2x WS champ) so it is pretty exciting.
