The irony today

 

I just realized that I had a buttsucker of a day. Woke up and it was 28. I exercised on my screened in side porch when it reached the mid 30's. Had to take my brother-in-law to get his hearing aids fixed. Fun 20 minute drive.
Me: "How are you doing?"
Him: "HUH?!!!!!!!!"
Me: "HOW. ARE. YOU. DOING?!"
Him: "CHEESEBURGER."

So I turned the radio up.

Get to his appointment and they say they tried to call to cancel but the number didn't work. I smiled, said "Fuck it." under my breath and called Mrs. Bandito to let her handle it.

On the way home, I took him to Buccee's for a chopped brisket sandwich, chips, and a cream soda. Brought him home. Said "SEE. YOU. LATER." and he said "HUH?!" then got out of the truck and said "SEE YOU LATER!!!!" I gave him a thumbs up and drove over to a local service station to get my State truck inspection.

The lady working the desk was making a bead necklace and when I finally got her attention and let her know what I needed, she said the inspection dude was going to lunch and would be back at 3. If I left my keys, he'd do mine first. I gave her my number to call and walked 7 blocks home.

Mrs. Bandito got off early from work for a doctors appointment and gave me a ride back to the service station at 3. I was going to sit outside but thought I'd let them know I was there so they didn't have to call. Lady is still working on her bead necklace. I get her attention and she says, "Oh, I should have called you. He did it before he went to lunch. Great day for a walk though."

I paid her their portion ($7) and then found the truck and headed for the tax office to get my sticker. Two ladies at the window, three people in front of me paying property taxes. 20 minutes later, I get to the lady and hand her everything. She says "Is this for the 2015 4-Runner?" I said "No, we did that one in December." Then she says they filled out the inspection sheet for the 4-Runner. My insurance card that I had to give the service station had the 4-Runner on one side and the Tundra on the other. Even though he would have been sitting in my Tundra, he filled out the inspection for the 4-Runner.

Drove back to the service station and the lady is still working on that damn necklace. I entertained the thought of choking her with it like Leia did to Jabba the Hut. Then the thought of seeing myself in a bikini gave me the heebies and I got back on task. Told them what happened. The inspection guy is late coming back from lunch and he's the only one that can fix it. She did say sorry and looked my direction for a second before turning her attention back to her beads.

10 minutes later, inspection dude shows up. He's told he screwed up. I show him and he apologizes, grabs the paperwork and heads into the garage to fix it. 15 minutes later, he still hasn't fixed it. I'm told it should be done, just go into the garage, take a left and get it from him. Fucker is on the phone talking to his wife. He apologized, hands it to me, said something about it being his fault but I had my back to him and was walking back to my truck so I didn't catch all of it.

Anyway, I drove back to tax office, and got my sticker.

So I'm all angry about my wasted day and then my phone sends me another headline about Ukraine... If this is as bad as my day gets, I guess I should be thankful.

 

Troof our shit days are still blessed.

Fun story, I'll try to keep it short.

9 years ago, and Mrs.TX and I have closed down the casual dating, and she's wearing jewelry. I've been whining at her for a couple of years by now that an AR has been too far down the list too long, and I'll need to pull the trigger soon, so to speak. I've also been telling her I'm not sure if it'll be a 15 or a 10. I've also been telling her I'd like to add a .45 one of these days, as the largest caliber handgun I owned was the 9. It can stay down on the list, though, since the 9 (Walther P88) is a great gun. Since we're about to mix finances up, I've been keeping her informed about approximate costs to all of this. She's been listening and not adding much.

So one day there's some news story warning of the doom of 2A, lines have formed at gun stores, and regardless of the outcome I know I'll have to wait another couple of years before shelves are stocked again. I have a light day at work, the bit flips, and I head over. There's a line 20 people long at CheaperThanDirt waiting on fewer than 20 each of the rifles I want - S&W M&P. As I'm standing in line I call chica. She asks how much each of my choices are. "$900 for the 15; $1400 for the 10." I sez. "Well, if you get the 15, that'll leave you $500 for the .45, won't it?"

Sure love her.

 

Since we're sharing our days, mine has been...irksome but not bad.

Had an irritating evening last night, so I shut it down and went to bed around 830pm. As such, I then proceeded to be wide wake at 5am this morning. Coffee with a splash of Talisker Storm scotch got me going. Fired up the laptop, said good morning to the people online who matter, swore at the news for awhile then shopped for expensive things I can't afford. Fortunately my credit card was out of reach and I was too lazy to go get it. Also spent some time trying to figure out exaclty what fluid the Corolla was bleeding and from where.

Around 8am, I bundled The Woman into the truck and off we went to an ultrasound appointment. The Infant is alive, well and just as anti-social as her dad. Perfect. Went over to the Chinadian Tire (dunno what the 'merican equivalent is) store to buy some stuff. Ended up chatting with another customer at the gun counter. We bemoaned the lack of reloading supplies and rising prices of ammo, and I gave him dubious advice on powder choice for 7mm Rem Mag.

Got home, ate some leftover pulled pork and checked a few things off the honey-do list which is basically like a hydra: i get it knocked out on my days off, head up north to work for 2 weeks, come home and list has not only been reborn it's doubled in size. Checked out the car again, the bleeding seems to have disappeared. Gonna pretend I never saw it, job done.

Around 3 it was back in the truck to go get our taxes done. Still waiting on a couple documents, but it looks like I'll be getting about $1500. Nice. We also noticed that in 2021, I almost exactly doubled my gross pay from 2020. I knew getting out of welding was a good idea.

Now I'm home, but need to go out in a bit and pick up a chair The Woman is buying from faceplant marketplace. After that, maybe I'll be able to pour a glass of scotch and sit on the couch for awhile.

This is it. Anything I want to spend money on is obviously a waste and anything she wants to spend money on is not only worth it but top priority and must be purchased the second she thinks of it.
