My 2013 4x4 Crewmax stock plug has a wire labeled TRAILER BREAKS on the flip up cover. It is wired.

My truck has the TOW button but there is no typical slider type aftermarket trailer break controller.

Anyone know if the trucks breaking system will sense and apply correct breaking to trailer brakes?

Sounds like it is wired for a controller but doesn't have one installed.

A lot of trucks come w a pigtail in the glove box for a trailer brake controller. That way when you wire it to the brake control module all you have to do is plug the pigtail into the plug labeled "brake controller".
Does that sound like what you have?

I lucked out. Found these in a clear bag under the back seat. I need to hunt down a nice controller.

The black plastic antenna mast wrench and the 4 stock wheel lugs that got replaced with lock lugs was also in the bag.

    I must be living right.

That's the pigtail. Once wired into a controller it should plug in under dash or kick panel. If I remember right, it's 4 wires to controller and a ground.

So the pig tail wires straight into the back of the new controller and plugs right in under the dash? I was not looking forward to running the harness all the way back to the hitch. SWEET! I will hunt for the plug tomorrow. Wires on the pig tail are about 18" long so hopefully that plug is close by.

Thanks for the info! Cant believe that this stuff was still in the truck.

Was just an accident that I found that bag this morning. I was looking to see if there might be a way to get some kind of a storage "box" under the rear seats like the regular four door Tundras have. Let me know if there is something out there.

You still have to mount the trailer brake controller somewhere you can see it n have access to it. That way you can adjust gain and manually apply trailer brakes if needed. The pigtail allows you to plug it into the truck, usually under dash or kickplate so you don't have to run anymore wiring to back of truck.

Yea Ive installed a few over the years on my Tacos and the FJ and had to wire all the way back to the bumper on those. This will be a piece of cake. I need to find a nicer quality controller to install. Im still in sticker shock and my head is still spinning over the locking storage compartment price.

I might get a little creative and build a long gun box for under the back seat. Ive got an idear :ohsnap:

Will have to do some exploratory surgery to see what those seats are mounted to.

For brake controllers, you will hear a lot of folks here going with the Tekonsha P3. Personally, I went with the P2 because it was cheaper, has the same braking controls, but is lacking the fancy user interface and programmable presets that the P3 has. I also bough mine used on eBay for half the price of a new one.
