572F55E9-7470-4F63-9FEC-7F7D9E144188.jpg Just ran across this wreck last night coming home from Tennessee. To much camper for that half ton truck. No other vehicles involved that I could see. Looked like the camper ate the truck it was inside the trailer. Half ton trucks are not meant to pull toyhaulers.

It would be interesting to find out what actually caused this crash. It’s easy to speculate that it was the weight of the TT, but it could have been caused by a number of things.

Bet it had the case of the wiggles.

People forget about sway when towing.

Toy hauler and what looked like a half ton truck..... ya I bet the wiggles too. You put any toy weight behind that back axle on trailer and the truck gets loose.

Wow. Horrible way to screw up a weekend.

Hard to tell, is that a GMC all wadded up?

It looked to me like a Chevrolet product short bed 1/2 ton. But I was trying to take the pic and was in awe that the truck was inside the trailer. The wife was driving so she was cramming on the brakes and rubbernecking lol. Not much time to really get a great look. Glad I got that pic though not the best pic but have never seen a camper that bad.

It looked like a GM. Thank you. Sure hope nobody was injured.

I’ve seen some pretty bad yard sales in my travels.

Have you shopped and or done any research on TT Toyhaulers? Any experience pulling one? I don't know the circumstances regarding that accident, and based upon one picture I wont even venture a guess. That said my Rubicon 2600 is designed to haul toys in the back with much of the weight behind the axles. It actually pulls better with two bikes in the back than it does empty. With no weight in the garage area the toyhauler is very very tongue heavy and makes for a rough pull even if I readjust the WDH.

I think that was his point... with so much distance in front and behind, using the axles as a fulcrum in loading the trailer is a dangerous game to play. It allows drastic changes in tongue weight due to the varying distribution and too little tongue weight is usually more catastrophic than too much.

I get what you are saying...However if you read what the OP wrote and I quoted...He implied that the TT was balanced and tongue weight would be ok until you added ANY weight behind the axle's and lightened the tongue up too much. I would have to grossly overload the garage area in mine to achieve that. Two full size Harley Davidson's and running dry(no water in front of the axles) is about as perfectly balanced(11-12% tongue weight) as my rig gets.

This proves my point.... to much trailer for a half ton. 8000 DRY 2 800 pound Harleys.
Asking for an accident I don’t care what brand the truck is.
And yet someone will say this is safe because our trucks are rated for a couple pounds more.
    Probably 900 on hitch .....DRY

Proves what exactly? That I am near the maximum tow rating for our trucks. Doesn't change the fact that that where I quoted you, you were dead wrong...lol. My Supercharged 5.7 with HD big brake kit and upgraded suspension feel's pretty darn good to me towing. I traded a 2002 F350 4x4 Dually in on it and other than the additional sway control the duals provided...considered it an upgrade from day one.

Toy haulers are designed to carry weight in the garage as MrMax mentioned, when empty they don't tow as well but if pulled "safely" with the right truck it shouldn't handle so poorly it would cause an accident.
Whenever I pull anything I drive differently. It's not always "if" you can pull it...it's also about "if" you can stop it safely. I see people all the time pulling big trailers like they're driving a passenger car. Who knows what caused that accident but I'd guess speed was probably a factor.
