I distinctly remember seeing it in my '06 AC. I was really curious why they had a two-wire plug taped back on the (IIRC) main harness. Maybe it's a later-year thing or a 6-speaker stereo thing vs. a cab thing? Could be curious to find out. If I can remember, when I'm in there next, I'll snap a pic of mine.

I am looking at a similar upgrade. Should we be concerned thought that these touchscreen head units for the most part are not detachable?

Was considering this. If these things are even "nicer" than the detachable single DIN headunits which have a detachable face, I wonder why they don't make them with that option?

In a world where practically every car model during the last 20 years came with a double-DIN opening, I rarely hear about anyone getting their radios stolen now. Not sure what it's like in your area, but in my area, in the thick of a major city, the police reports from my precinct are mostly one of three things: Kids breaking into cars because they see bags or other potentially valuable stuff through the windows, kids lifting handles to toss cars looking for anything they can find, or kids breaking into cars to steal them so they can apply a fake or dealer temp tag, and use for a string of other crimes like burglary and robbery.

I rarely read larceny from auto cases where they targeted the stereo system, but I realize my city isn't the same as everyone else's. Just not as common as it used to be, back when the only thing holding in your single-DIN stereo was a crapy, flimsy metal cage that nobody ever seemed to install correctly.

Honestly, there are enough ignorant people who are naive enough to leave all kinds of things visible in their cars these days that kids and crackheads alike don't NEED to take your stereo. I'm shocked at what people leave in their cars, I can't tell you how many stolen firearm reports I read every month.

I tossed in an Alpine ILX-107 wireless carplay head unit. I like it a lot better than the stock unit but, I like tactile buttons. Still, solid and would recommend.

Updating this as I ultimately decided to swap out the powered sub for a 5 channel amp and separate sub. The details are in the A/V forum.

I dropped $150 on one of these powered MTX units after hearing in a friends truck, it kicked like two 8s or a solid 10 when properly wired on his 4v out head unit. Opened the box on delivery to confirm all was OK, then opted to go a different route, but naturally that was after Amazon's return window passed. It's still sitting in both factory boxes in a closet, I listed on OfferUp & CL for $100, no bites. Need to ultimately get rid of it sooner than later just to free up space.

Im glad I went with a separate 5 channel amp and subs. The front speakers sound better too with 3x rms power feeding them now too.
I do need to find a set of grills to protect the subs.

Thanks for a very thoughtful answer! I was the victim of a car break-in for a stereo many years ago and I guess it left a mark. It was the kind that you used to pull out in their entirety and hide. Well, the one time I didn't pull it out at a restaurant, I came back to a busted windows and missing stereo. But I think you are right - maybe the temptation is no longer the stereo but the other items of value that we leave in our cars. Maybe the electronics don't fetch as much at a pawn shop as they used to - who knows. The other thing is so many cars come with touch screens now that it's no big deal to see one through a window if you're out to steal which is what you're saying. Especially if it looks like a factory unit - I guess there hardly any interest am I right? So for those in the "big city", does hiding a well known brand's name make it that much less attractive I wonder. Thanks again. I think I am going ahead and getting the touch screen and giving my 2006 a nice refresh. And I already know I'm going to miss the volume knob!

Has anyone upgraded their bluetooth microphone? I've been told by several people lately that they can't hear me well. I'm just using the cheap one that came with my Alpine.

Yeah, amp for separates is my typical MO.

At first I didn't want to spend more than $600-800 on sound, but I wanted a nice kick in the back when someone was stomping on the kick drum, sort of like what I felt in my friend's truck with this MTX unit. It's a worthwhile hidden-gem combo for plug-and-play, but I doubt I'll get half what I paid despite being brand new. :(

My change in direction was pairing my JBL separates with a JL XD600/6v2 and two shallow-mount 1ohm DVC Kicker 8's in the Q-logic Access Cab box. Running components in stereo on 4 channels and still not sure if I want to run the subs bridged or stereo paralell/series/mixed I have options. Just need to buy the amp.

JL never seems to run deals.

I hot a 10.1 inch android tablet screen off Amazon.
It arrived but was missing stuff so sent it back but here are a few pictures for size refrence.

I'm looking at others again since I have to reorder another unit.

This one had good reviews and shipping but the screen doesn't come out to clear our radio dash.
Needs to be extended by the looks of it.

I installed a Pioneer DVD unit last month. Its a cheaper unit but it has everything I wanted. The bluetooth is flawless, the dvd quality is great and it sounds sooooo much better than stock. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have a volume knob.

I installed an Alpine ILX-207 about 2 years ago. It was fine up until a few weeks back. It started to distort randomly out of different speakers even at low volume. I took it back to the installer and they said it was the head unit and had to go back to Alpine for out of warranty repair. He said it was $200. Not even sure if this was a legit amount.
I guess he ordered the advance replacement and said it would be two weeks. IMG_1667.HEIC.jpg

I'm really confused by these pictures. Your controls are unlike any I've seen in a first gen. What year is this Tundra?

Posted in another thread: I tried the Pioneer 7600NEX, but was too laggy. Still searching!

It looked great though...but for $1350 (with harnesses), it wasn't justifiable.

Hey Evil - that looks like the Daisata unit, am I correct?

I just read somewhere on here today, when ordering, dont use Amazon Warehouse for the order and dont use Prime.
Pick the other option (Daisata Store) that includes shipping (think it was $15.00 or so).
This way you get all the required hardware.

Chill man! The thread goes automatically on our feed and we don’t necessarily see or check that it was created in the 1st gen forum. Maybe the OP should state that he is searching for a HU specific to 1st gens. And... the OP
seems not to mind the posts; only you
