I just went online at ARE's site and built me a 8 foot topper. Took maybe 3 minutes.

I don't see a search tab. Just go to the "build your own" section and put in your information.

I now see, I can build one! But only with a low roof or low rise roof. As I mentioned earlier, I was looking for a high roof topper. These are flush or close to it with the roof of the truck. I want some room!

I would call ARE. Can't hurt. Tell them what you want.

I'm an A.R.E. dealer and just looked up your truck. The MX series is available and will be roughly 7 inches higher than the cab of the truck.

I would not buy an ARE topper. I am on my second one and the quality sucks, I will never buy from them again. My first ARE topper cost roughly $1000, the latest iteration cost roughly $1700. On my latest ARE topper, I have side opening "windoors" on each side and the windoor hinges and hydraulic lift arm mounts failed within the first year and I am a non commercial, non off-road use (think grandpa driver). After reaching out to ARE, the basically told me, you are S.O.L. In my humble opinion after having spent nearly $3k with that company over the last few years, their toppers, canopies, camper shells (call them what you will) are total POS and the company has horrible customer service. Spend your money elsewhere. Your mileage may vary.

Any time brother! Unfortunately there aren't many raised models out there for the 8.1 bed. The MX will definitely give you some extra headroom and it carries all the way thru versus a wedge style cap. If you go A.R.E. be prepared for a wait, they're running on an 8 to 10 week lead time right now.

My ARE is now 9 years old. No issues. My boss is on his 3rd ARE. Never had issues with any of them either.

Before you go spend your hard earned money, wait for my post on A.R.E camper shells, I am working on it now. Just need to take more photos. I will provide lots of photos and documentation. Spoiler alert, do not buy an ARE product, you will be throwing good money after bad.

Consider yourself fortunate, in my opinion. My experience has been, well....uh....try not to swear, try not to swear...the polar opposite of yours, to put it politely. Were yours solid side windows or "windoor" windows.

Solid slide. Boss has windoors. And once again has had no issues with them. That topper is now 4 years old. I can find bad reviews for most anything. Certainly sounds like you had a bad experience and your frustration understandable.

I agree, bad reviews can be found on most anything. But with my ARE camper it is almost as if it were a factory "lemon" or something. So many things went wrong so quickly just did not make sense. But the worst was when I contacted the company (4 times) and spent a significant amount of time with them over the phone, how they just basically pushed me aside and didn't want to hear my complaints were just unjustified. Talk about pouring alcohol on a festering wound.

Let's face it, a good company, ANY good company can put out a bad product occasionally, I understand, it happens. But what separates a mediocre company from being a great company is customer service after the sale and standing by their product when there is a problem.

Fortunately here in Denver Metro is a place called Suburban Toppers. Been here for years. They sell most brands and they will deal directly with the mfrs for customers if they have issues. Takes away some of the pain dealing with them yourself.
