Can someone tell me why the top of my grille continues to separate from my hood? Under normal driving conditions, every time I use my truck, I notice this separation. It always snaps right back in, but then after the time I drive my truck, it pops right back out again.IMG_9673.jpg IMG_9674.jpg

Toyota upgraded the clips that holds that in place. I have the part number for the OEM clips or you can go with the aftermarket clips from Amazon that many have had success with. Give me a few and I will link those for you.

So my guess is these just wore out? Were they a bad design, and Toyota redesigned them?

I removed the hood bildge trim yesterday to replace the clips and found 3 of the clip holders and one of the threaded holders broken. I applied JB Weld epoxy to the broken holders and let them sit overnight. This morning, I installed the repaired bildge back onto my hood and it fit and snapped in like a champ and looks like it never was broken. I think the aftermarket clips suggested by Jim LE 1301 hold much better than the original Toyota clips. Also, I went to the dealer to buy the new and improved clips and was told they were $11 and change apiece. That wasn't going to happen! Thanks again to Jim LE 1301 for the link to these clips.

BTW, can anyone tell me what is the purpose of the black piece that only traps air inside the hood bildge is? I'm confused; this looks like it is an aerodynamic killer.

They should have pulled it from stock and looked. $11 should be for a bag, not each individual one.

Last year I was returning home from a fly fishing trip to Wyoming and met a truck on a two-lane highway. I was going about 65mph and the 18-wheeler was going fast and pushing a lot of air. As we met, there was a very noticeable air flow impact and my hood buldge separated from the hood in several places. I was able to push the pins back in and they have been good since. I might add that I have had my hood buldge off on a couple of occasions and I think removing and reinstalling wears down the pins/slots that the pins slide into. Thanks for posting the after-market parts number but it now shows "unavailable" on Amazon.
