What are you guys running for tonneau capable rails and/or racks. What I'm looking for is a rack that I can reduce to rails depending on my needs. I would like to use it for our kayaks and bikes primarily when towing. I think I'm going to end up building my own system with 80/20 aluminum, but wanted to see what's already out there.

Here is what I drafted so far. Having a hard time getting anyone to take the job for 4 brackets. Either too busy or too small of a job. Have a old friend in the machine shop taking a stab at it.download_20190408_105814.jpg download_20190408_105812.jpg download_20190408_105802.jpg download_20190408_105752.jpg

If you buy a diamond back bed cover they already come with those racks that sit on top of the bed cover all made of steel the cover and the rack will run you at least $1500

Is he interested in offering a fair price for fabbing another set? Maybe a slightly different design...

Finally got some time to finish things up. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Trying to figure out if/how I want to add some lights and maybe solar to it. May also come up with a rack for the center that I can slide in/out.

The first set was already a off books "government project" so I can't really get other sets made. I can provide the prints with all the mesurements to get a set made. I had a few shops quote me $300-400 for a set.

Is there any chance you still have the blue prints to the kayak/bike rack you built. It is very impressive and would like to get one for my truck. I am having an issue finding one like this, this will be perfect when I haul my camper.

    Wow, nicely done OP!

I was surprised how few options there are to run racks and tonneau together... fewer still if you want a tri-fold rather than roll-up or retract.

I went with Elevate racks and T-Slot rails, and a BakFlip.

Had some Yakimas off my old Tundra so I MacGyvered the landing pads to the the cleats that came with the Elevate system, so I have the option to run the Yakima bars down low if I want. May mount bike fork mounts to that.

Hey @SD Surfer, did you have to buy both the rails and the racks for this to work?
I'm trying for a similar set up on my '22 Limited with an Undercover Flex and bed rails.

Correct, I bought the Elevate rails ($200) so they could get installed at the same time as the tonneau cover, then I added the racks later.

The racks come with a high and low setting, but the low was an inch or two too short to let my tri-fold fold, and the high was way too high and kinda' goofy looking, so I drilled a new set of holes for the med height you see pictured.

I wanted them just high enough that my cover would open and my SUP's and surfboards would clear the cab.

I'm real happy with the set-up so far.

For this interested, KB Voodoo has a new option available for some tonneaus. Called their vrs system. I know Leitner has an option too that works well if you have rails on top similar to retrax. As @SD Surfer said, not many options for those with a trifold or roll up.

here’s my setup as an fyi. Rack with a retractable underneathB7D5D3A3-FFCC-409F-AE65-C2AFB6B89AA4.jpg

My pleasure, so far it seems like good quality gear.

FYI, I ordered the racks off Amazon, and by signing up for the no fee (but high interest, don't carry a balance) cash back Amazon C/C I got $150 off the racks plus the cash back points, so the $730 racks were only $580 :bananadance:

    https://www.amazon.com/TruXedo-Elev...mzn1.fos.ac2169a1-b668-44b9-8bd0-5ec63b24bcb5

One caveat on the height I set mine up at... I wanted to keep them as low as possible to open cover and clear the cab.

My cover does not clear the third fold on the front rack. If I need the whole bed I'd just remove the cover (Two thumbscrews) since I don't really like having lean up against the cab blocking my window anyway, so I didn't care about that and wanted them low. It would need to be an inch or two higher to clear.

When I first installed the racks I drove around without the T-Slot molding installed while I was MacGyvering a way to mount my surf racks, and that slot whistled LOUD with the back cab window down at anything above 25 mph or so, but once I put the molding strip in the T-Slot they're nice and quiet.

would you mind taking a picture of how this is attached on the underside of the bed rail? this looks like the solution I want to use since I too have the backflip mx4, but when I look at their installation photos im not sure how it fits together

I can later (drove my wife's car to work today) but this install video will probably illustrate it better than my pictures would. Somewhere around the 5:00 minute mark shows the rails being installed.
