To degrease or not to degrease: that is the question.

I’ve got a 2018 with 29K miles; I’ve seen plenty of YouTube warriors cussing and discussing various degreasers from Simple Green to industrial foams and various techniques from spray, sit, rinse to spray, scrub, rinse, wax, kiss, etc.

    Two questions:

    1. Is decreasing the engine necessary (for anything other than aesthetics)?

    2. Is there any potential to harm any electronics (or anything else, for that matter) if using any technique or commonly accepted engine degreaser product (not looking at power washing; 1,900 psi can’t be good for much anything)?

At 29k miles you really shouldn't need more then a light rinse with a garden hose. I'd stay away from power washing. If the engine bay is grimy, I like Gunk Foamy Engine Bright. If you use Simple Green, make sure the engine is cold, I've had it discolor hot aluminum. The only time I've had any electronic issues was a a self spray & wash with my Land Cruiser. The distributor got wet. Fortunately I had a can of WD40 & got it to start with little trouble. If you're concerned, you can use plastic wrap to cover anything that looks sensitive.

I use Gunk engine cleaner and degreaser. Spray it on a cool engine, let it sit for 10 minutes and light rinse with garden hose. Does a great job and have never had any issues.
