I have a 2016 SR5 Dbl Cab TRD. Barcelona Red Metalic. Factory BLACK Mirrors, Door Handles (Rear Door Handles are Red), Tail Gate Latch, Side Pillars have the Black out Tape that Toyota uses.

I am considering buying After-Market Chrome for some or all of the above including the Tail Gate Letters.

IF I do... where... from whom... should I get the parts?

I've heard of PUTCO and know there are others. But I do NOT want shitty stuff just to save a buck.

Trying o get advice here I've noticed the trend to "get rid of chrome" and "go to black"!

WoW! Is Chrome a mistake? If so why?

So.... feedback on Whether or not to Chrome... And... the best place to buy the Best Parts if I do.

    Thanks in advance....

I don't hate chrome. Just don't care for it. Prefer color matched or blackout. I see a lot of 4X4 trucks here in Denver with way too much chrome bling added. Tacky comes to mind.

Chrome looks tacky imho. Color matched or blacked out looks way better. I have chrome on my white truck, but it'll be gone as soon as I get time to PlastiDip it.

I get the "Over Chromed" "Tacky" thing. As I look at all my options.. the Side Pillars would be too much. But that damn Flat Black Tape Toyota has on it looks "Cheap".
I'm pretty much down to only Main Door Handles, leave the Painted Rear Handles alone. Tail Gate Letter? Do the Mirrors? Tail Gate Handle.
Again though, if I do, Parts from WHO?
    Thank you both!

It's funny but 10-15 years ago, I remember when every truck had chrome rear bumpers, chrome grill guards, chrome steps, chrome truck boxes, chrome headache racks, chrome wheels...and it was more expensive to acquire these things. Using blacked out items was a sign of saving pennies. Nowadays it's reversed and the opposite is true - blacked out accessories are in demand and cost more than chrome. Maybe in 10 more years, it'll go back and I can buy blacked out stuff on the cheap again.

It's your truck...do what you will with it. Check the market section here. I just gave mine away not to long ago. Chrome pieces come and go. You can even post a WTB, willing to buy, thread as well. Good luck.

I see lots of take off chrome pieces all the time on my local Craigslist. You could try there and get some great deals.

As previously mentioned, plenty of people are GIVING away their chrome pieces. You should be able to find plenty for damn near free.

Yeah, it's personal taste. I personally like the blacked out look. Always have. I grew up on the coast so chrome had a tendency to rust if you didn't take care of it which meant more maintenance. That could be the reason I'm not a fan of chrome... To each their own though.

I think everyone else covered it pretty well here - Just post a "WTB" or scroll through local craigslist or local Tundra facebook groups and you can get some take offs pretty cheap.

    A bunch
I think the chrome currently on the truck matches the Red nice, some colours (Inferno for sure) chrome just does not match one bit. If it were me I'd colour match the front door handles and mirror caps. Chrome mirror caps I can see being ok too. As for the tailgate inserts I like none in there, but if you want to put inserts in there the chrome would most likely be a better match. Part of what makes trucks so awesome is that each individual does different looks and mods to their truck. If we all did the same thing it would be pretty boring. So do what you want to do most to your truck, but make sure to show us lots of pictures so we can properly admire it.

Chrome is only a mistake if you think it is! The "cool" thing to do is get rid of all chrome, but if you like it then I don't see any reason to get rid of it.

To me, around my area, it reminds me of out of the south immigrant fellows or the unfortunate EBT subscribers that love their 24" rims. Not that I have a problem with that as I am myself an immigrant, but come on. There's chrome and stickers on some of these trucks that blind you a mile away. Didn't care for chrome when I was growing up either

side pillar chrome looks cheap too and tacky. Put too much chrome on a truck around here and it will probably end up south of the border. They like that stuff down there.

Exactly! If you like chrome then chrome it is although removing chrome for me was not for the "cool" affect but mainly to be less shiny/i.e.=noticeable up in the mountains especially during hunting season.

I have a 2018 Barcelona Red Metallic Tundra also. It's a platinum so there is a bit of chrome.

When I looked into adding letters into the Tundra bed stamp, I ended up going with chrome ones. I think they look nice with the red. Here's a picture.

When I bought my 2017 I could not wait to get rid of the chrome grill, just felt like it was everywhere, and having a color matched front end looked great. Now It looks like everyone and his brother has changed to color matched grills and it has lost its uniqueness, so i am going back to chrome.

My old cars with plastic bumper eventually faded and looked ugly. My very old Tacoma with chrome bumper looks great! So when my tundra came with front chrome caps (partial chrome) and rear color matched bumper i was not very happy. It looks nice now but ask me again in 10 years ... If u are keeping your cars for a few years it may not be an issue.

    Edit:
Also refer to @ARamirez73 video above. I have never seen an "eternal" color matched (plastic) video! Cuz they only last a few years ... :D
