Looking at a 2008 Tacoma as an addition to my Tundra as more of a commuter Other than the frame issue is there a reason I should not buy it. And they dont salt the roads here and the frame is pristine.
I cant seem to find any other known issues with the 2008s, I know earlier models with the 4.0 had head gasket issues, but that was sorted out by 08 wasn't it?
    What say you

Thanks for the reply. I have one I am probably going to buy today, it is the unicorn owned by an old man who bought it new and only hauled a fishing pole in the bed. As long as I can get my bank to get me the approval today I am getting it.

    Had an 07 and a 12

    Loved them.
Went to the Tundra pro because it was about the same price as the Tacoma Pro

I drove the 07 for 5 years and never had any issues with it.
I used it for search and rescue and had that ting in places people asked "How the hell did you get in there and more important, how the F@ck did you get out?"

Until recently I had an 07 Tacoma X-runner. A sport truck with V6 and 6 speed. Loved the truck. Only issue would be braking and climate control. Otherwise a great truck.

I had an 08 TRD sport and it was a great truck until it needed a frame, so I traded it for my tundra. I think the 08 was the best year for the 2nd gen taco other than the 15. It was the last year with mechanical LSD or locker depending on model. It also had fewer other electronic thingies to go wrong. It was the 4th year of the 2nd gen so all the bugs were worked out. One thing I did not like was the ABS braking system when driving in the snow. I ended up installing a kill switch to turn it on/off when I wanted, but some just pulled the fuse in the winter. Other than that it was a great truck. Oh yeah... the rear leaf pack was weak, Toyota did offer a TSB replacement leaf pack though and it was free. Even the new leaf pack was weak so I installed air bags, but a set of super bumps or whatever other helper bump stops would likely be idea. Anyway for the right price I would go for it, but don't count on good gas mileage for a commuter, I had a mild 2" lift and 255s x 32" and got 14/17 mpg winter/summer.

I’ve had an 01 tacoma and a 2011 tacoma DC. They are very reliable trucks and get great Mpg. Can’t go wrong with a Toyota! Go for it!!!

The locker was standard on all 05-15 TRD OR models.
