Well, at least the gas-powered truck is still around. It actually piques my interest a little bit...

They are nice. I looked at them when I was looking for a truck. The new ones are pretty plush. Honestly, I didn't really have any objections to it other than it was Nissan/Renault.

It was slow, just as expensive as a domestic diesel (and in most cases, 130 hp/ 400 tq more for your money), and ungodly ugly.

It doesn't surprise me that they didn't sell well. Engine and performance aside, Nissan has long since stopped building reliable vehicles. The ergonomics in the Titan XD are terrible too. I'm 5'5", and when I sat in the driver's seat and adjusted everything to fit I only had about an inch of head room and the top edge of the windshield where it met the headliner was pretty much at eyebrow level. They're butt ugly and cost as much as a GMC 1 ton with the Duramax which is far and away a better truck.

That is too bad. I was looking forward to increased competition in this segment.

Consumer diesel in the states is being dis-incentivized by our command economists. The last diesel daily driver I owned was a 2011 GMC Duramax. In addition to fuel, you also fill the DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) tank, which in that truck is under the hood. You could be low in fuel and continue driving until empty. But, when you get low in DEF, the computer warns you, then it limits the vehicle speed, and eventually it prevents the truck from moving at all.

Foreign markets do not have that level of communism. In Asia and Russia, for example, small-sized diesel trucks with big time torque are inexpensive and common.

I had a 2005 Nissan Titan LE with pretty much every option. Had the following warranty repairs: front differential seal, rear axle seal twice, ABS module and finally transmission. Kept it until it had 100k miles and traded it in in 2014. I really liked the truck; versatile, lots of options, powerful and fun to drive. But the repairs out of warranty were adding up and got a 4runner. After the 4runner was totaled by a guy running a red light, I got my tundra. I still miss some of the extras on the titan...…..

Not surprising. The performance left much to be desired. When the gasser outperforms the diesel in towing tests they doesn’t bode well for the diesel. I never liked the in betweener truck to begin with and the in betweeener engine didn’t seem to do much well. The HD diesels have monster tow numbers. The half ton diesels get excellent fuel economy. This did neither well.

I say, good riddance, even with all the fancy dancy nannies and doodads, the shear ugliness killed it IMHO.
