Ok when i was younger i worked in food service. I understand why waitresses and waiters get tipped. They are not paid minimum wage until their tips are figured in. But it seems like every place i go now there's a damn tip jar on the counter. I understand these employees dont get paid alot. But they are making minimum wage at least if not more. Im suppose to pat you on the back and give you extra for doing your job. When did we just start giving handouts. People at subway ,dunkin doughnuts , and all these service places are getting ridiculous. I might be showing my age here but 99% of the time I get mediocre service and attitude when i get takeout. It makes me not want to frequent that business. Maybe I'm out of line. But i dont think this is right and businesses should take notice and put a stop to it. I wont contribute to this handout mentality. Just needed to blow off some steam after a take out and cashier got a little sarcastic when i didnt leave a tip. This is just my 2 cents.

Your not alone @balou i feel the same way. I may be old school too but i don't care. I tip really well when i get good service by a table waiter but i be dammed if i am dropping money in a jar on a counter for handing me something. Everyones job is just as important as the next. The hand out mentality these days is horrible and don't get me started on the go fund me account situation!!

I tip at 22-28%. It is up to the server to get the 28%.

I get tired of all the tip jars everywhere now. The only time a tip is given is if you do something for me outside of what I expected/deserved.

Say I order a pizza and I go in to pick it up. I don't tip. Do you tip the grocery store for a frozen pizza? Now if I order a pizza and have it delivered, then yes, the tip comes into play.

Same goes for Subway (or any other establishment like this). You made me a sandwich in a sandwich shop. Well done. That is why I'm there.

I don't get TIPS at my career. I am paid a good wage to deliver electricity to my customer. If I can't do that, guess what? I no longer get that good wage. Every year my individual performance metrics are calculated along with group performances and raises are given off these accomplishments or failures. Some years I have had 1% raises and others have been much more. This all depends on me.

    ok, being serious now.
i usually tip based on the size of their tits. if the server has an awesome rack and is showing cleavage. she's getting a nice tip. service could be shitty. idc.

here is a graphic representation where the X axis is the titty size and the Y axis is the $ tip

In my view, a tip is intended to show appreciation for service that exceeds expectations. I don't think they should be tipped for just doing their job at the minimum standard.

So if she want's a tip she better serve up a smile with that grind.
