Timing belt part #

Hey all.

Curious if someone could verify a Toyota part number? I'm getting conflicting info and these are not cheap... or returnable.

Looking for a timing belt for a 2001 Tundra 4.7 v8.

Also, does someone know where I can find a procedure, specifically for aligning these on the cams? I've heard the vvts (not what I have) are different than the older models. The youtube videos are tough to follow, apparently some people don't even use the alignment marks, which absolutely scares the heck out of me.

Good god, they don't even sell paper Chilton manuals anymore.

 

Most of us would recommend that you use

AISIN TKT-021 (the OEM supplier), which includes, the belt, idler, tensioner, and the water pump (because why not? you've already taken your engine apart)

 

Are you aware of the Aisin timing belt kit? That's what most people recommend. Rock Auto sells it.

For your vin based on the Toyota EPC,
13568-09070 - timing belt x1
16100-09201 - water pump x1
00272-SLLC2 - Super Long Life Coolant x2 (At my dealer, we normally bill 2x gallons or 7x for a full drain and fill. You can also retain your used fluid if you like, but not recommended.)
00295-00103 - Toyota Form In Place Gasket (Black/Oil type) x1

Those parts are the absolute most bare minimum. It is possible to do the job with only those parts.
I highly recommend adding these as well, since it's super convenient to do them at the same time.

13540-50030 - Timing belt tensioner x1 (you can reuse the old one, but this is just much easier to work with)
13505-0F010 - Timing belt tensioner pulley assy x1
90201-10101 - Timing belt tensioner pivot bolt washer x1
13503-0F010 - Timing belt idler pulley x1
90311-A0001 - Crankshaft Seal (also called oil pump seal) x1
90311-38065 - Camshaft Seal x2

At least you didn't buy it from scAmazon and end up getting really authentic-looking counterfeit shit like others have. Likewise with fleaBay.

Side note if your truck has the supercharger the belt is a Gates K061058RPM

 

Get some of your wife’s fingernail polish, and mark the old belt at each pulley (mark same place on belt and pulley). Make the same marks on new one to match. As long as the cams don’t move when you aren’t looking - if you remove one belt and put a new belt on in the same place there will be no problem.

The camshafts have two sets of marks and I never did figure out which is which (Toyota manual shows one set) but decided to not worry about it and successively replaced the belts on two of these engines 01 and 03.

Start at TDC but when you remove the belt the camshafts will back off a little from pressure so you will have to wrangle them back and another set of hands would help - or the tool to hold them in place.
