Time for front brakes- vendor recommendations?

    Just 40k miles on my 2016 but the front brakes shimmy (so common) so it will be time to replace pads and rotors soon.

    I have been looking at buybrakes.com. Any better vendors out there? I saw tire rack had lots of choices as well as rockauto. Rockauto does not get a lot of info on the kits, so far that was my least favorite site.

    Not really a fan of drilled rotors for a truck. Slotted is good as well as open to cryo rotors as long as they don't cost a fortune.

    For the price I am considering the Centric premium brake kit. Had also been looking at the stoptech truck and tow kit which is a bit more $ but they are sold out now. I am not going to spend $400 on front pads and rotors so am open to suggestions. I do tow a 3000lb pop up camper and you never know, may upgrade to a bigger true travel trailer in the future.

    What has worked well as far as kits/components and vendors?

    Also just checking out autoanything, the Z36 kit looks decent, but I wonder if I will feel those drilled rotors every time I hit the brakes.

    Looks like they also have the stoptech truck and tow kits in stock.

    I just want something that stops as well or better than stock and will not be needing to be replaced in 15k miles due to shimmy or warping issues.

    I had the Z36 for awhile. It’s a lot softer than stock and your pedal will travel farther because they are ceramic. I was driving down mt Washington and the brakes got up to 500-600f and I got brake fade. I replaced them with ebc orange when I got home and the pedal has a much better feel and good stopping distance.

    If you find what you want, check Amazon too.

    good info, and that is why I am asking. I had no idea a ceramic pad could feel different.

    Being this close you could wait and check Black Friday sales. I got the z36 kit from Amazon last bf for $300.

    Yeah I had them on my 10 and then my 18. Definitely a softer feel. I thought something was wrong and kept bleeding my brakes until I read that it was because they are ceramic. Others had the same experience if you search for reviews.

    Oddly enough when I had them on my silverado, there was zero fade and the pedal was firm. I just ordered detroit axle drilled and slotted rotors for the front and z36 pads and the standard detroit axle rotors and pads for the rear. Got the standard kit for the rear since the front does most of the braking anyway. Rest of my parts should be hear on Friday, so they should be installed sometime Saturday or Sunday. Also, thing to note about the z36 pads, bedding the pads is extremely important, as it is with any pad without a break-in coating. Ebc works well because they put a coating on the friction material to help bed the pad to the rotor without needing to do all the steps that standard pads require.

    Not many yet, mostly stock.
    Take some pictures if you can while being mounted and give a reply on how they work out.
    I have some setting in my Amazon basket, but I liked the slotted only disc. Ive heard another member say his got worped after a towing trailer trip. But they were a different manufacturer. If you can let’s us know how it works out for you.

    I’ve never owned EBC, are the rotors good as well? How does their quality of parts compare to Powerstop? I’m guessing the powerstop will last longer because they’re ceramic?

    I have been impressed with ebc. The pedal feels much better to me. I’ve only had them for about 800 miles and ebc says it’s not fully bedded until 1500 miles. I left my power stop rotors on, but next time I might go with stoptech cryo rotors. Ebc rotors are expensive.

    The only issue with ebc is they come with piston caps for the squeak. They give you 4 for the front, even though you’d need 8. I didn’t use them and bought shims from Toyota. I did use them on the back and don’t have any squeals.

    I posted the same question about a month ago. No firm consensus. Some are Chinese junk, so beware. It appears, EBC has been brought up more often without any disappointments. PowerStop appears to have a 70/30 relationship, and CRYO are mentioned but seldom used. I was left with the EBC option. I'm a 2016 with 49k. I have some wobble and fade during heavy braking. Still have pad left.

    I like discounts, and almost ready to swap out front end rotors & pads and struts.
    I’ve had stop tech on a f150, slotted rotors. They worked ok.
    I’ve heard better reviews on cryo treated rotors (black ones) & ceramic pads... Hopefully Black Friday, and discounts are plentiful will be the time line to score big. :fingerscrossed:

    Detroit axle rotors came in today. Will be installing them this weekend. All I gotta say is, these have to be the heaviest rotors I've ever had on a vehicle. Think they are heavier than the drums on the rear of my 2010 silverado. Rotors look great, surfaces all look really good. I'll be happy to get rid of the shaky wheel here soon.

    I just bought some hawk yellows the other day off of Amazon 68 for the front and 39 for the rear.. Then I bought the centric cryos from Autoplicity (non slotted). I probably wont get to put them on for a couple weeks, but that is what I went with.

    I have not been able to find cryo rotors on their site. ?? They just do not show any when I input my truck info- 2016, sr5, etc.

    I have seen them at tirerack, but would like to purchase everything from one vendor.

    I have used seller BrakeMotive brake kits off eBay for a number of years without issue. I get blank rotors and pads,nothing drilled or slotted. They are affordable as well.

    I have 49k on my 2017 and the steering wheel shakes when braking. I have been undecided in what to get. I was ready to just get OEM replacement parts because of to many options. I just looked at EBC slotted rotors with yellow pads. I have a non lifted, stock tire truck and I tow a 5k pontoon boat. Any thoughts?

    Ebc pads are good but their rotors are expensive. Even cryo rotors are cheaper.

    Well, as you have experienced and if you have looked around on this site, front brakes are a weak link on 3rd gens. There are so many people that have shimmy, warping, etc. So you are in the same boat at me. I just want something that performs as well as stock but won't warp or shimmy after a few thousand miles. Oh, and does not cost 400-500 for simple rotors and pads!
