Hey guys. Waiting in line at the tire shop for the new KM3’s to go on and just looking at if it might rub and noticed this.

the tie rod is hitting the front of the coil on the coil over. How are people resolving this?

You can sacrifice some caster and maybe clear, but honestly it’s easier to just ignore it. Think everyone I know rubs there at some point.

*edit* sorry said that wrong - noticed you have adjustable uppers, can actually lose caster with the uppers and lowers to pull it away.

I hit up the shop to look at the alignment again this week to see if I can resolve it. I have some slight rubbing I will have them look at too.

thank you very much for the insight.

yes the KING are pretty thick there. if it's not the tie rod, it's the sway bar end links usually. An alignment might give you a bit more clearance.

    Mis alignment spacers in correctly?

I ask because I have 7 degrees caster and 3.0 shocks and I barely touch.

I’m almost 100% sure it’s the tie rods. The Sway bar was removed when I did the lift. I’m going to have them look at alignment and see if I can gain any room with the icon UCA’s.

basically - went 315/70r17. With the 8.5” wide icon wheel it sucked up a little bit of the width of the KM3.

I sure hope they are... I didn’t personally do the install but I know plenty of shops have installed them incorrectly. Are you talking misalignment on the UCA bolt at the top or on the bottom mount of the shock?

I was referencing more so the bottom in the LCA. That would have a light influence on coilover position.

Definitely. When the rain stops I’ll jump under the truck and take a look / photos.

So I know what orientation they should be - is the larger spacer to be placed on the back side of the shock mount or in the front of the shock mount? (Towards the rear of the truck)

@khens12 how much did you have to do to the front fender liner / mud flap? This setup works without BMC as well right? I’ve got all my parts on order and doing basically the same setup in a few weeks. I understand the Icons minimize how much you have to do to the inside of the wheel well when running 315/70-17s.

Will it still rub if you slide the boot up a little?

I have yet to do any trimming. For general driving it does not rub unless I’m full lock at reverse. I have made it work for the time being in order to get into parking spaces in the work garage but I believe I will need to trim/re-align and last resort trim the body mount in order to provide full clearance while articulating off road.

I removed the stock mud flaps. I honesty believe it is all in the alignment numbers which can vary as I’m sure you’ve read about on the forum.

Joon - what boot are you referring to? The tie rod is on the front side of the coilover, right?

This boot. Sometimes it’s just the thickness of the rubber boot that makes it rub. You can loosen the clip and slide the boot upward a little. If it still rubs you’re going to have to adjust with caster.

Gotcha! I need to take a look at this. I hit up the shop that did the install and alignment originally to see if they had time to look at it but never got a response.

Do you happen to know the correct misalignment spacer orientation I had inquired about in earlier posts?

Are they different lengths? King directions makes no mention of a difference.
    http://www.kingshocks.com/wp-conten...5-2007-+-Toyota-Tundra-2.5-Front-Coilover.pdf

The 3.0 directions mention spacers, bigger in front.

rod rub sounds like a personal problem. i'd recommend this.

the warming aspects help tremendously. if that doesn't work, you can step it up with this one.

Curious on any update with your post?
Mine were installed two days ago and I'm getting a rub from the tie rod.

I think my boot hits as well with my Toytecs. I get a loud pop at times when I'm at full lock but havent look at it yet. Could be my skid plate?

Full lock pop is usually the steering stops. Put some grease on em and see if it stops (they’re on the ball joint mount)

No updates here on my end. I actually sold the truck a week ago and went back to stock before selling.

seems to be somewhat common on the tundras though....

Looks like your coilovers have some rub spots also, mine is going back in on friday to look at adjusting caster a little bit to help with clearance of tie rod. This was the suggestion given to me by the tech support at bds suspension this week.
