Question for you guys. While I was up hunting I am getting irritated by the touchy throttle while going slow or climbing in the mountains in 4 wheel drive. I know I am still getting used to the throttle being touchy but it is ridiculous when climbing up steep rocky roads. Is there something I can do to make the throttle less touchy? Thanks for the help.

I don't think so brother. Best I can suggest is get used to it. I had an old Silverado that I had to throttle just to get it going before I got my tundy. For weeks I was the unintentional asshole that just took off at the green light. Now, I'm perfectly used to it and no longer the green light asshole!

If there is something you can do, I don't know about it. Try the "ask the Toyota mechanic" thread.

This was a major issue that was addressed in the 3rd gen Tundras....then people started complaining the truck was low on power. Go figure.

You will get used to it, and it takes a little finesse.

Just hard to be gentle on the throttle when bouncing over rocks lol. which just makes the bouncing worse.

Well hells bells. That sounds like a good idea to get a full MT coil over suspension so you can just go faster in the hard stuff.

    Makes sense to me.....

I think I read something a ways back on here, that the pedal module that comes with the Hypertech Interceptor makes the engine a little less touchy? I don't have said mod but I think I read that on @TruckyTruck's build.

There were two different throttle controls. The first had a rectangular pedal, the later had the bottom right corner "cut". This was to "prevent" the throttle from getting stuck on the floormats. I don't know if there were any internal differences that changed the throttle progression to not be so sensitive. Also, another "trick" is to kind of wedge your foot against the transmission tunnel to dampen the movement of your foot.

Yes, had same issue in my '10. More sensitive than a virgins nipples, and more dangerous than her father! Get the Hypertech pedal module, VERY worth it.

Yep, it does make it less touchy. The bullydog has settings to control the throttle too. I personally hated it. It just takes a little getting used to the tundra throttle on 2nd gens.

That's a common issue with a 'dirty as f#ck' throttle body / air intake valve, its propped partly open with all the build up on the back side from the EGR. I did a write up on how to clean it. Clean that bad boy and you'll get smoother acceleration.

Also, check your engine air filter.

I know that issue exactly. The harder the truck bucks, the harder you accidentally hit the accelerator. Kind of like this:

Thanks guys, lol I am sitting at work and just watched that video and laughed out loud. that is what it felt like last weekend. I will check out the throttle body and air filter. kinda disappointed in the dealership that they didn't do an oil change on this before I bought it. drove 1k miles and have to take it back in for service:annoyed:. Who doesn't do an oil change before selling a truck.

I bought my Tundra new in 07, I loved my Truck. They had a recall on the gas pedal , I took it in , whjen I got it back the pedal was so soft that I could hardly control it. on rough roads its a nightmare from throttle surging. I complained to Toyota Corp, they basically told me to suck it up. I now only have 54,000 miles on a 07 truck that I dont care to drive.

Replace the pedal with a less sensitive one, made a world of difference for me. Part was $28 and it takes 20 seconds to install, 2x 10mm bolts and swap it.

Great, thanks! Do you recall if the new ones still have the lower right hand corner of the pedal "clipped"? If I'm remembering, this was Toyota's fix for the "sticky throttle" where the corner was catching the floor mat. That'll make it easier for people interested to recognize the newer one visually.

Correct on this. The Hypertech Interceptor does have a pedal module. It will make the truck less jumpy off the line or at those slow speeds on the rocks. I took it off. I liked having the power up front vs a computer slowing the output.

To each their own. One of my favorite parts of my Tundra is the touchy throttle. You get used to it over time, and I actually really appreciate it these days. It is also a hoot to watch people give themselves whiplash when they drive it for the first time.

Oh i love it on the street, makes the tundra really peppy, however if you take it offroad, and climb over rocks, it's horrible to try and creep over them. You end up with too much speed and goes flying, can really damage something. I swap back and forth, takes 20 seconds anyways.

I live in the mountains and go offroad quite a bit. I got used to it even on the trail. Like I said, to each their own.
I built up a '69 Bronco off-road rig several years ago, and I remember tuning the throttle response on that one to get it as touchy as I could. I just like things to react quickly.

But, if you have the ability to go back and forth and that is what you want/like - awesome!

Yup, you're basically driving a 4.0L now. Jokes aside, the acceleration is much more linear now, not abrupt like before. Let me know how it is after you install it, worst case scenario you're out $35 and you can cuss at me.
