There's now a TSB issued for this. Came out on the 16th.

To be clear, I don’t have the lag with the hybrid.

When shifting to sport mode, the transmission is in 4th gear. I down shift to 1st and the truck has plenty of torque, as expected.

This is exactly how it works in the 3rd gen Tacoma and a few guys on here said the same for the new Tundra. Then there are guys on here that are saying the exact opposite now soo haha

Another thing with S/manual mode is you don't have any learned shift logic. That is why so many Tacoma guys would throw it into manual mode and then bump it up to 6th gear. It then shifts up and down without what it has learned from the driver.

I'd find it hard to believe that the Tundra is different as I am pretty sure other Toyota models are just like my Tacoma is. However, if it is locking you to that one gear than that could be sweet. Or very annoying. ha

Edit: If it really is locking you in the gear displayed then someone needs to move it to 10th gear, come to a complete stop, and then take off. You should definitely know if you are in 10th gear or not... I highly highly doubt Toyota would design the software like this.

Edit edit: My Tacoma defaults 4th gear no matter what once you shift it over to S mode. Doing 80 down the free way, bump it over, and it will downshift to 4th if you were in 5th or 6th. Come to a stop in D, slap it to S, 4 is displayed on dash, but you takeoff in first. In then shifts to 2nd, 3rd, and then 4th on its own.

I would have lag when at a stop or slowly rolling. Input from the pedal would be delayed. I haven’t noticed that since the update, acceleration has been much better also.

Just something to think about: Today, temp is now 14 degrees. If I still had the 22 Limited TTV6, the Throttle lag would be terrible. Just came back from running quick errands with the 23 Hybrid. Sitting last night and we hit zero so you know everything was cold. Start up and warm up-normal without assistance from the Hybrid sync.........absolutely no throttle lag. took a while to warm up and the Hybrid sync kicked in. Hopefully the TSB and fix noted within does the same for the 22-1st year roll-out

    I'm taking mine in today.
Curiously it was difficult to get the service advisor to schedule me (Peterson Toyota, Boise). SA asked how did I know about this issue? Was it something I just 'googled' They had no record of any TSB's on the truck and hasn't heard of it. Fortunately I had the info from this forum. Will advise later tonight.

I would bet most advisors wouldn't know about the issue as it's not a recall. Even a TSB may not come up for every dealer. The other way to solve the SURGE after the lag is to install blow off valves, if you let it purge a lot it just stalls:confused: Ask me how I know. I installed more screws to stop that from happening, than I got the update. No issues.

Received the TCM flash yesterday and the short update is that after limited miles and two drives, it seems to have significantly helped. Haven't experienced lag since the update.

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be a cure-all for me. I have a very crisp shift somewhere between 1st-3rd gears that's more noticeable than I'd like and acceleration isn't as smooth as the first 500 or so miles after I purchased. FWIW, both of the other two 3rd gen Tundras I've driven had the throttle lag, but both also had better performing transmissions and smooth acceleration. It's possible I may have other issues with my powertrain.

For the benefit of others considering it, the TSB has never appeared in my app (under 'Health and Alerts', 'Service Campaigns', etc.) and I forwarded the bulletin to the service rep prior. Had no pushback or issue having the update done. Relative to work for other TSBs, this is a quick .5 hours of labor and shouldn't take long.

Let's keep the feedback rolling after others receive the update. It seems to be worthwhile.

the system is going to have to relearn everything after the ECU update, so keep that in mind, get some miles on it and it will smooth out again most likely

True, thanks for making that point. In my case, the truck is driving about the same, so I think the effect will be modest. Will let y'all know of any noteworthy results.

Picked up the truck this evening. Performed 111-22(Hesitation from stop surge) and 110-22 (pop/clunk) which are the same TCM update according to SA. Delay appears to be gone and throttle response improved based on 30 miles of city driving. The whine/clunk from the transmission is still present.

Which clunk are you referring to?
I thought the clunk sound occurs when you start your engine? And usually when it's cold?

TSB-0111-22 hesitation when cold, surge condition occurring from 40% to 50% throttle. I'm scheduled for Saturday. TSB came out Dec 15 2022.

Very interested in your outcome. Had it twice on 3 week old 2023. I think mine was more of trans gear confusion at rolling stop. Hope it fixes yours @Flyfishr

Took mine in today for this. Didn't appear to make a difference on the drive home, hopefully just computer re-learning and will improve. Will report back. I'm not sure which TSB they did, is there a way to tell? The ticket doesn't say, SA just said they did a re-flash.

Lag is far worse in economy mode and was really driving me crazy. Switched to normal mode and it runs much better. It really is a safety issue when the throttle lags and then wants to launch like a rocket when it kicks in. Occurred most often when turning for some reason.

Mine is at the dealer right now getting this TSB and the clunk/pop TSB addressed. I think I've already convinced myself that this new tundra isn't great enough to justify keeping it. I'll be listing and looking for a cheaper 2.5 gen in the next week or so. Hopefully they get all the rest of the issues worked out soon.

When the TCM was flashed, it will have reset the logic and put back into adapt/learn mode. Will probably improve after a 100 miles or so of driving.

I had a conversation with dealer about the TSB yesterday. He claims that the TSB flash will NOT cause other undesirable results. I was curious if the TSB flash is a bandaid for a specific problem or a real fix. I'm curious to see how those have had the TSB flash done find it after a few more hundred miles.

Still no lag (or start up clunk) on mine now after about 500 miles.
