    Hey all,

I test drove a tundra this weekend and loved it. I actually liked the interior too but I have read that people think it's not so great. I haven't test drove the domestic options but my buddy has an f150 and the other a Colorado that's fairly new. The f150 is familiar since I drove a Ford now (interior is a rattle trap though) and the Colorado (which will be same as Silverado it appears) feels terribly cheap and ugly.

What are your thoughts? Dodge looks good but I just don't want a Dodge. I don't need a luxury interior, I prefer something that is simple and doesn't rattle or feel cheap. I'm in biased mode right now though so I want some of your opinions, especially those who have something positive to say about competition or negative about Toyota.

Tundra interiors are dated and plasticky, but generally free of rattles. Domestics are newer designs. I haven’t sat in a new Chevy/GMC, so l don’t know about those. The new F-150 has a nice interior. My friend’s 2016 has held up very nicely and is free of rattles. My other friend has a 2019 Ram, which has a beautiful interior, but it’s too new to determine how well it will hold up.

I have what I need and nothing else. It’s a pick up so me personally I did t want all the bells and whistles. I can’t speak to other brands. Guess it’s all personal preference.

Gotcha. The Chevy felt cheap to me in the Colorado but maybe that's just me. I want a tundra but a 2016 cpo gmc is very affordable, but I really don't know if I trust the reliability and I know the interior leaves something to be desired.

While my 1794 Tundra interior is "dated" it has all I want and need. After owning other brands I appreciate the rattle free interior. Also the Tundra is very easy to drive with great sight lines and mirrors. I do like the blind spot monitor. Only complaint I have is to much glare on the touch control panel/back up camera screen. Drive train is solid and is always ready to go. No thinking about which gear to downshift to.

I sat in every new pickup on the market at the Atlanta Auto Show this year including the new Tundra. I didn't think the Tundra's interior really looked as dated as people say.

And while I don't have rattles I do get a lot of creaks from the HVAC controls and side door panels on my '16.

Every truck and car that isn’t a luxury brand is going to have creaks and rattles over time. I dont understand how the tundra is dated. If anything the gm and the dodge don’t look like trucks inside

    This.

I wanted a truck. I don't need/want leather. Or heated /cooled seats . Didn't need sunroof. Didn't need fancy contrasting colored stitching. I have an SR5 without the upgrade package and am very happy with it the interior. It does not feel "plasticy" or cheap to me at all.

I don't feel bad getting it dirty at the motocross track. Plus, it all cleans up very easily. Only have 6000 miles but so far interior feels nice IMO. I like how the radio knobs and HVAC controls feel substantial and classy without being blingy. the knobs and controls of other brands have always looked/felt like they were from the parts bin from lower cheaper model vehicles, especially GMs.

The only thing I wish was different on my Tundra is the steering wheel material. For a $45k the material could have been nicer, but at the same time I don't feel bad using it or getting it dirty. Personally I think it will wear better (slower) than if it were leather wrapped.

A few months ago a buddy if mine rented a new Titan and we went for a 6 hour road trip to buy our dirt bikes....The only thing impressive about that truck was the gas mileage. The Titan interior felt like a Nissan Altima/maxima parts bin special. Interior door handles felt whimpy and small. The door panels didn't line up or flow nicely with the dash. Radio controls were parts bin and cheap and didn't match well with the leather dash cover. It just seemed like not much thought was put into the look and feel. That rental had 20,000 miles and there were all kinds of squeaky rattles from the back seat area and tons of wind noise from the passenger side window seal. Very annoying on a 12 hour trip.

I have what I'm guessing is the base model. 2011, it's old, but so am I. It's still nicer than my last Chevy. Of course, I bought a truck for the truck part. Its scratched and dinged but it does truck stuff. Sometimes hauls big truck tires, or lumber. Sometimes just my wife. If it had a sunroof, I would never be able to drive it. The wife would!

    To much to list:)
Tundras are just FINE. The only thing I miss is the storage above they took out, the grab bar,(I added one), and the deep box of the center console but I fixed that two. The interior is fine also you can have leather and I suppose they could try to come up with something better than the other choice but it works. Like the room, non noisy/no rattles, and you can haul things and tow stuff without the front end sticking up in the air and replacing front tires!! It’s a nice truck and the main word is Truck and there are some really cool ones out there!! My truck is pretty cool!!,:) not like some here but decent!!:)

Only complaint about the tundra interior for me are the door panels. They scratch real easy. Always have a tape measure in the truck. Constantly putting in and out on the side door pockets has caused many scratches. No fix but it’s a truck to me. It is what it is. Seats are great for me. No rattles on my truck.

I shopped all brands before pulling the trigger on my tundra crewmax platinum. I mainly went tundra for reliability over other brands to be honest. The plastics in my tundra are not my favorite as the mark up easily. I’ve have mine for 1100 miles and the door and center console are marked up more than any other vehicle I’ve owned. The leather quality is top notch on mine though. So, it’s a trade off.
The only disappointments I felt in Toyota over others was that it lacked push button start, keyless entry, and underseat storage in the back. Oh, and the Entune system drops a lot of my calls and has lots of static during calls. I’ve never have a vehicle do that.
The interiors and technology on the competition all seemed more advanced, but left me feeling like they had a lot that could go wrong for some reason. The ram truly felt quality, but it’s a ram. The ford felt advanced, but cheap to me for some reason.
I love my truck, but they could use better interior plastics that don’t mark up as easily and use less plastics in general. Just my opinion.

@Hurricane1091 Hmm? Let's just say Toyota Trucks, in general, are tough SOB's! I'm gonna admit the interior in my '93 Toyota that I, unfortunately, totaled in Feb. was far more superior than the '13 Tundra that I now have. Yes, the interior has more of a plastic-like feature... BUT! I wouldn't drive ANYTHING but a Toyota a truck, EVER! (oh, my 25 yr. old Toyota truck I totaled, (smiling) started right up after it got towed ) And to help you a little more...there are two guys in Louisiana that just hit 1 million miles on their Tundras! Toyota Trucks Rock!

Ha! It should be pretty easy to find unbiased people here, which we have. I have things I like alot like my St Croix mojo rod, but I'll tell you that it's stupid it doesn't have a hook holder on it still.

Coming from a Dodge and a Ford.....the interior on my Tundra is very nice and rattle free. But in saying that there is one annoying "squeak" somewhere in the dash area on passenger side that I cant seen to nail. But all and all 1.5 months into this truck LOVE IT!!!!

Other than the excessive chrome on the 14+ and the unpleasantly hard plastic panels on the 07-13, these trucks have durable, comfortable and generally pleasant interiors.

My opinion is admittedly biased! I think the interior is great- clean lines, nothing is too busy, nothing feels cheap, no rattles or squeaks, it cleans up fairly easily, and I do not think it appears dated, although I recognize they haven’t made significant changes in a while.

I have the SR5 with the upgrade package from 2018. I just added leather. The door panels match my new black leather perfectly, so everything is tied in visually.

My 1794 rides great compared to most other trucks that I've owned but a Ram is hard to beat for comfort. My father-in-law, who is a die-hard Chevy guy and owns a LTZ 2500, couldn't believe how nice the interior of my Tundra is. He still compliments me on my ride every time that I see him. He actually sat in my truck and he told me that it feels like he's sitting on a recliner. Yes, the door panels scratch easily but I have found that if you use conditioner it helps with this. BTW, I use 303 protectant on everything inside and out. It rocks.

I checkled the F150 out to compare between the two. The cloth seat material in the F150 was extremely thin compared to the tundra. I have an 11 and 8 year old that would have worn through that already. I don't like the chrome cup holder trim on the Tundra. It blinds me every once in a while. I do wish the black SR trim was an option instead of all the silver.

I have a '13 Tundra. NO chrome cup holder trim. One of biggest things I hate is the placement of the radio. I'm only 5'1" and have to reach over to change the stations, etc. Even someone taller than me didn't like it either. And the side mirrors, I have to stretch my neck up just a tad at a stop sign so I can make sure there's not another car at the other stop sign to my right.(if it's a small car) I might need a booster seat. LOL

I agree that ergonomics was not on Toyota's priority list. BTW, I'm 6' 260 lbs and I still have to reach for some of the controls. Every vehicle that I have ever owned had quirks about it that I didn't like and this one is no exception. But, I still love my truck regardless.

huh? Have a 2018 King Ranch does not rattle (in addition to tundra). Puts ANY tundra interior to shame. Our interiors are absolute garbage. Also had Lincoln LT and another F150 before that, none of them rattled.

I dont tow trailers often, but when I do, even light loads, the F150 10 speed is simply awful. It neuters the V8 in the KR. The 6 spd in the tundra and its gearing makes towing much less stressful. On the flip side, the Tundra interior isnt as comfortable, or quiet, as the F150.

Thanks for the replies boys (and maybe girls). I think I mostly got the replies I was looking for.

I have a 2015 Mustang and the interior does not get more basic. Some decent materials but it's a rattle trap. I do not need anything crazy honestly. I am going to try to work out at a deal on this 2016. It's a good price and they seem motivated.

    Hehe, I
Wow! That is bad if YOU have to reach for some controls! I hate I can't adjust the side mirrors manually. I'm sorry, but I'm still getting used to the 4 wheel drive knob being "right" there! LOL, I'm used to getting out and locking those hubs. Lol
