Ive got the stock bilsteins from my trd 01. I just want a smooth comfy ride, i hardly ever take my truck offroad. Are these good comfy shocks? Or are there more suitable ones for my needs for city and highway driving? These are from 1a auto. Drop me some recommendations boys. Edit: basically I'm asking if these trq 1a auto shocks are acceptable build quality. I just want a smooth ride on city streets. The only offroading i do is idling over fields to get to my fishing spot

Personally I would replace the front and rear Shocks and struts with the 4600 bilstein’s. Please keep and reuse your TRD coils if they are in good shape. The ride will be just fine, especially at stock height.

Here’s a screen shot with the discount code applied. The shipping and tax could/will be slightly different depending where you’re at. I’m not saying the ones from 1A are good or bad. However, in the long run you’ll probably be pretty happy with the bilsteins.

Thanks man, but tbh i just want to replace the entire assembly, not just the strut. Just want it to be quick and easy.

I agree with him. All you have to do is have a shop move your old coil to your new strut. It's a small fee and doesn't take them long. I think you'd be happy with Bilstein.

I cheaped out on a set of struts for an 04 Camry.. After about 4-5000 miles they are shot! Total waste of $ in my case. If your on a budget watch this forum for factory take offs? Or spend a little more for Bilstein 5100.

What is the advantage of my reusing the old spring? Mine is 20 years old and has got some rust. Edit: o i see, your saying if i just get the strut without the spring.

Ok, my only fear with the bilsteins is they will ride too rough

I doubt you will even notice a difference.. Maybe a little firmer just because of new equipment?

The 4600's should be fine. That's what they ship with from the factory though. It's a truck though. I spent a fortune on my front suspension and my truck still rides....like a truck. I've just learned to accept it. I would go with Bilstein before I picked those mystery A1 Auto shocks. Years ago I put cheap Monroe "quick struts" on my truck and those were terrible.

I have the front shock kit from 1aauto on my 01. Realistically i've only put maybe 100 miles on so far in 2 months, but since this isn't my daily i'm not concerned. Perhaps if I were doing 100+ miles a week I'd go for something better. They were relatively easy for someone new like me to change out since there was no coil swap on them. They definitely ride soft, but I was also comparing them to possible 10 year old previous shocks which were worn.

If you have the time/energy/money you could always take the 4600's along with your old coil to a shop and have them swap the coil for you. Might cost you an hours worth of shop time, but could be worth it. I have in mind doing something better for the rears on mine. I have some un-dated KYB's on the rear and I wanted to do something like 5100's, mostly because of hauling heavier things in the bed and towing.

Save money where you can, but not at the expense that effects the job you're trying to do.

When you say your ride is soft, is it in a positive way as in it absorbs bumps better? Or sort of negative as braking and cornering isnt as enjoyable

If i do go with the billys, i will def get new coil springs. Mine are rusted pretty bad, not to the point of snapping, but its not a good look. Not throwing 20 year old springs back on the truck.

You will live to regret that purchase.

There is a lot of tech in strut design that lower end struts cannot do. Go bilstein 5100 and throw a few sandbags in the bed if you want to smooth out the ride.

Let's look at this logically. 4 new struts, 2 new front springs and 2 new top hats all assembled for under $400??? Sounds to good to be true when you consider springs can cost over $200, top hats around $35 each and $90 a strut and $60 for rear shocks. Something just doesn't add up.

I haven't used monroe shocks in over 20 years. Initial ride quality always feels a bit soft but more importantly, performance over rough roads and stability at higher speeds is where they show there weakness

It's definitely comfy as a large truck should feel like. Not a bad/problem type soft, just soft like a early 2000's large pickup. It is much softer than my '10 PreRunner Tacoma was.

5100's have the option to raise the front of your truck, getting her looking nice and level. DON'T DO IT

    Lol
The 5100's set to oem ride height actually ride really nice and smooth. To soft for my taste so I went to the 4th clip, definitely a noticeable difference in ride quality and performance. I think you will be happy. If the tail end is to firm, add some weight to the bed. For long highway trips I tried 240 pounds of sandbags in the bed, really nice

Keep your oem springs, they are better than the junk most aftermarket brands poop out
