My sales person just texted me an update.

"Good afternoon Mr. XXXXXX. We got word that today is the Build day for your Tundra. After it’s built that’s when Toyota releases the actual VIN that will replace the temporary one we have. Delivery is still set for 12/13"

    Questions/Thoughts
    - How long does it take to actually build
    - why do they need temporary VIN numbers
    - The dealership is a 14 hour drive from San Antonio
    - What are the chances of it making it to the dealership on the scheduled delivery date

A 12/13 date is pretty good. The 2.5 gen took 24 hours to build and then Goes through the distribution cycle. Normally took about a month for delivery.

I wonder if I should anticipate the delivery date to be closer to the end of December

Do you have any port installed options? My 21 was built 8/26 and delivered to my dealer in Ohio 9/23.

With shipping lags, I'd expect 4-6 weeks from factory to your front door. Not sure what part of the country you're in, but from TX to OH took about 4 weeks, but many said they were seeing much longer.

If it helps. My truck rolled off the assembly line November 10th, going to the St. Louis area. And they just gave me a delivery estimate of December 21-27.
Cant believe how slow Toyota shipping is.. They need to take a lesson from Jeff Bezos.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
They’re getting loaded into auto-racks for transit via rail.

I can tell you that given the enthusiasm Class 1 RR’s have for screwing their customers that few of you are getting your trucks on time. The scourge of E. Hunter Harrison’s “Precision Scheduled Railroading” which is neither precise, nor scheduled…. nor railroading has enthralled Wall Street so much in pumping up profits via lowering operating ratios that all the big Class 1’s have been busy deferring maintenance, furloughing employees, laying up locomotives, driving off small customers, and trying to combine trains into 3 mile long unworkable shit shows that most areas can’t move a damn thing on time.

Plus RR’s are unable to add much capacity right now because they furloughed as many people as possible and those employees aren’t coming back. No one wants to hire on because the word is out about how shitty these companies are to work for now. Plus the vaccine mandate has absolutely infuriated everyone on my road from management down to the lowest seniority new hire. Morale is zero right now, and most of us wouldn’t piss in our respective CEO’s mouth if their teeth were on fire. We’re a few weeks away from losing a ton of people potentially over the vaccine mandate.

Not to mention the fact we are past due on our contract and the rail carriers conference has refused to negotiate in good faith. So personally I have only three goals when I report for duty: don’t get hurt, don’t get fired, make sure my coworkers make it home safe. Beyond that I could give two fucks if I turn a wheel, and that’s about where most of us are at this point.

First and Foremost - Sorry to hear about the work-force /work-place situation you are in. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. I do hope it gets better for you. To be honest it puts things in perspective. Here I am worrying about whether my 70k truck is delivered on the day I am supposed to vs getting it a month later.
