This sounds funny - do you ever regret buying a full size truck?

So this may sound really really bad lol. I upgraded from a Tacoma to a Tundra a couple years ago and I absolutely love my Tundra. Lately however, I have realized how much I miss my Tacoma. Both are great trucks and I upgraded as I love the extra CAB space and I do use the bed for camping, hauling wood, scrap, etc; but not really any towing; once in the last two years.

Is this just me? Am I nuts? Anyone else this about this? I guess I just need to hire a therpist to handle my coping.

The ONLY time I regret buying a full size truck is when I'm opening my wallet to fill it up (often).

But then I get in it and stretch out, then I press the loud pedal, hear the wail of that glorious V8, and then I regret NOTHING.

I also upgraded from a Tacoma to a Tundra. I can't say that I regret getting the Tundra, however I do regret getting rid of the Tacoma. I wish I could have kept it along with the Tundra. I had the Tacoma for 16 years, so it was like a child to me; it was a sad day when I had to leave it at the dealer, even with the excitement of the new Tundra.

I'm the same way. I bought a 2004 Tacoma in 2014 with 30k miles. It was practically brand new. Something unique.

I had a 2002 Tacoma and the MPG was not much better than the Tundra. Maybe 2 MPG on average better, at the most; probably closer to one, so that did not make much of a difference to me.

Every time I do I just jump in our 4Runner and remember how much I like the 5.7 and extra room. But my kids can’t stand the Tundra... or our LX570. Lately, my wife leaves the LX parked and drives my 2017 Limited instead because she likes the height with the 3” lift. That’ll probably change when the snow returns and with icy roads the AWD of the LX really shines.

Hey, I traded in my 2005 Taco for a 2014 Tundra a few years ago so we could pull a newer, heavier camper. Yes, I do miss my Taco because she got around 24 mpg so she was my commuter vehicle (85 miles, round-trip). Since the Tundra is only getting around 16, I bought a Scion iQ which gets close to 50 mpg. The Taco was closing in on 100,000 miles and I had ZERO issues with her. (Well, I did buy the extended warranty and only used it one time when the overhead outside temperature gauge stopped working and they replaced it....it costed $400 but my warranty paid for everything except $100)
My biggest regret is the size of the gas tank on the Tundra....26 gallons. WHAT? When I tow my 8,000 pound camper I only get around 11 mpg so that's a range of just 286 miles...just a few hours driving. So I've looked into trading in the Tundra for a F-150 or a new Tundra (38 gallons) if I can find one. (I've looked at the used Tundras in the area and MAN they really hold their value...glad my 2014 is paid off and has low miles (<40,000) so hopefully I can get a good price when I do sell it or trade it in.

The only thing I miss about my Gen 3 Tacoma is that it was easier to squeeze into a parking spot. That's it. I don't care about the gas mileage at all. As it relates to performance and fit & finish, the Tundra is far, far superior.

Literally for every vehicle I've ever owned, I've wished I had something else at some point in time. I think the solution is to just buy multiple vehicles lol.

I always been driving small sport cars and first truck was a 93 pre-taco. Later on a 97 4runner. Almost bought an '05 taco, but wanting a V8 and larger bed. '05 Tundra for the win! '16, now '20. I love it!

I would have regretted getting a full size truck if I got the F350 DRW. I have to park even farther.

As I write this, I truly love my 2018 Tundra. But, to be honest, it is bigger than I need. If the Tacoma would have been available with the 4.6 V-8, that is what would be in my garage right now. The modern V-6 (Atkinson cycle) had a power band I didn't want so I went with the 5.7 in the Tundra instead. No regrets, though.

just get a new bigger tank installed on current Tundra. Much cheaper than traded in and your truck is paid off already.

The Tundra is a big 1/2 ton for sure. I cant fit in garage due to length, it is a wide boat too and mpg is as bad as my 20 year old f150, but the roominess of crewmax and power of 5.7 is fantastic and everytime I hop in our cheby tahoe i miss the room and ride of the Tundra.

I go from the 7/8 size 1st gen Tundra to the 1/2 ton 2nd gen Tundra and back on a daily basis, I would have a really tough time stepping down in size to the Tacoma.

You can't beat interior space, especially if you're married, even more especially if you have kids.

Might be different if you live in an overcrowded city, but most of America has huge roads, ample parking and cheap gas.

Yes parking the big Tundra is a pain at grocery stores and restaurants so we hardly ever take it for that.

I came from a paid off 2012 Tacoma. I do miss the truck and no payments, but I wouldn't pick a new Tacoma over a new Tundra. I personally back in all my parking spaces, but I do that no matter what I drive..

Not at all. I traded in my 2019 Tacoma DCLB SR5 for a 2020 Tundra TRD OR. The Tacoma's engine/transmission characteristics is just not for me.
