Back a few years ago after several years of driving SUVs, I decided that I wanted/needed/could get away with driving a truck instead of the family hauler. There’s a a Toyota dealership just a couple miles away so I stopped in for a test drive. I had no plans to buy yet, I was just starting my research. I test drove a Tundra and it was awesome. A couple of months later I bought one (2016). At the time I just couldn’t justify the extra expense of 4WD so got a 2WD. Even then I thought my truck was awesome.

Then I found this site and realized that my truck wasn’t that awesome after all. It could be more comfortable, more capable, and more cooler. I started small with the DYI bed rails and the ammo can mod. That was fun and kinda cool. Then I got a little more practical and added Husky Xact floor liners and said that made it more capable. Then one day at the lake I watched a guy in a Chevy slide down the boat ramp. No 4WD. Ended up having to use the boat to push his back tires out of the water. Right then I decided that I needed a different truck. I wanted to do more mods but didn’t feel right putting money into a truck that I knew wasn’t the ONE.

So one day I was having an oil change at the dealership and they later called me and said they needed low mileage trade ins and that they would give me a great deal. I said fine, tell me about it. I didn’t believe them but tell me more. I asked to work with them via phone and email and they said no I’d have to come in. So I said no, I don’t want to waste my time. They just would not deal with me over the phone. So I forgot about it for about a week. But they had gotten my interest. There are 4 Toyota dealers here and 3 of them were willing to deal over the phone/email/text. And I was able to get them to compete! In the end I was able to get a great deal on my trade along with some incentives and got a brand new 2019 4x4 Tundra. My note went up a total of $5/mo.

Then I came back here and saw that I still wasn’t where I wanted to be. My build is modest, but every single idea came from this forum. I’ll set up a gofundme site so you can chip in and help reimburse me for the money you made me spend.

Again, modest but here it is:
    2019 SR5 4x4 with the TSS package
    DYI deck rails
    Ammo cans
    Husky floor liners
LED interior lights from Headlight Revolution
    LED backups from Headlight Revolution
ARB air compressor. It’s portable but it’s in my truck so I’m counting it.
    AJT blackout and gear shift
    Diamondback HD
    Katzkin interior
    Falcon Sport shocks
Coachbuilder +1 shackles and bumper shims - thanks Dave! You the man!
Icon 6 Speeds Swapped to Fuel Vectors
    BFG KO2. 295/70/17
    Pioneer 7600
    TRD Pro LEDs
Talons Garage skid plate and CAT shields

    Thank you all!

Yep. Told my wife I was buying a TRD Pro so that I didn’t have to spend a bunch of money on mods…

Haven’t been back to this in a while so adding updates….

I had issues with tire balancing a while back. They would balance at the shop but after a while they would go out of balance. Might be a day, might be a month. After several trips to multiple DT stores and my lift installer we finally figured it out. The center plate on one rim was very slightly off. DT swapped out the Icon 6 Speeds for some Fuel Vectors 17x8.5, 110.1 bore and +7 offset. Been perfect since then.

Later on upgraded HU to Pioneer 7600

I wanted to get one of the Diamondback Crossbins but for my use didn’t want to spend the money. I did have an old hitch hauler that I’ve not used in over 10 years so I fabbed up my own crossbin.

Added TRD Pro LEDs and OEM fogs a couple of weeks ago

And finally last weekend added the front engine skid along with transmission / transfer case / CAT shield from Talon’s Garage.
