how many of you guys work third shift? :goingcrazy: I HATE it been on it for about 9 months now. The day we moved into our new house I moved to third shift :frusty: But fuck it, paying my dues as the new guy 2.5-5 years left hopefully.

Side note; finally got some decent morning weather this week to be able to Clear some trees from the front yard. They were pine trees and dropping pine pitch so I couldn’t have that with the new tunny parking there daily

Kind of third shift.... 6pm to 6am. Took a while to get used to but now I actually like it. More $ and its much quieter.

Lucky you. I’d consider that 3rd shift. I only make an extra 48$ a week on midnights lol and the social life is non existent. My gf works a continued swing shift too so that makes shit that much worst. Progress on shit is much slower but like I said hopefully only a few more years to go (let’s go old timers retire)

I worked 3rd for 5 years and hated most of it but at the time it was the best option. I liked the work and the people but after year 2 I had to go on meds to help me sleep and at year 5 even with a double dose I was only sleeping 4 hours a day.

It works for some people though there were some that had been doing it 30 years.

For sure the sleeping part kind of sucks. For me it depends on the day but usually Benadryl does the trick for me for now.

I worked graveyard shift in a plywood mill for 18 months after high school while going to Umpqua CC. 11 to 6:30. I didn't mind it so much. It was a high paying job for a 18 year old college student. I did just about every position in the mill over that time. I'd get off work and drive down to Roseburg for a full load of classes each day. I was younger so was fairly easy to do. Kept me out of trouble. Then I joined the Marines. Hahahaha...

For me its not the falling to sleep (blackout shades help a ton), its the constant switching back and forth on the weekends to a normal persons sleep pattern. If I could just stay on night shift sleep schedule it would be a whole lot easier, obviously with a wife and kiddos that's not an option so I do my best to adopt a regular sleep pattern on weekends to facilitate family life.

My last job had rotating shifts. Four weeks of day shift, four weeks of swing shift and four weeks of graveyard shifts. It was a continuous rotation that went on for several years. No one could ever adjust to their shift; it killed productivity and morale. The only up side was that everyone hated it equally.

At my work we switch from day shift 0600-1800, to EM shift 1800-0600 evey month. Pain in the ass, we switch just when you get used to the hours.

Worked 3rd/ mid shift most of my military career and in my civilian job I've worked most of it on 3rd. I'm tired of shift work...as a single person I loved it.... even while married it didn't bother me, but as single parent....IT BLOWS. Trying to find child care when you have NO family in the local area to watch your children is not easy. I want a decent paying job working day shift hours and weekends off for more time with my babies

I work first (8-4 or 5 or 6) so don't hate me... But I worked 2nd (3-11 weekdays, 3-midnight weekends) at a restaurant during high school and college. I actually didn't mind it. I always found staying up late easier than waking up early. In summer off of school I'd usually stay up to like 4 or 5 then go to bed, wake up around noon or 1 and I'd be ok. I couldn't see doing this with a family or significant other that worked normal hours though.

Another railroader. I work on call which means mostly nights. So napping has become second nature. Being up for 24 hours is normal. But boy when I rack out I rack out hard. Usually in the most uncomfortable hotel bed.

I worked 23 years of shift work in a factory. I started on 2nd shift (2pm-10pm) and worked that shift for 8 years then moved to 1st shift.

2nd was good due to most managers had left between 3-4pm, so we had very little interaction with them, especially on Saturdays.
2nd sucked cause it killed my social life.

1st was good due to off at 2pm and had the afternoon and evenings even on weekends.
1st sucked cause all of the managers were there fighting over who was going to tell you what to do over the other, what a joke.

Other than the coming in at 2am and working till 2pm or 10am till 10pm it nothing really changed.

Current gig sucks ass hours wise, unless you can get a position that has set hours like mine, 7-4 m-f weekends off. Otherwise you are closing most of your shifts and working weekends.
