    Am I nuts?

It’s a 2007 2WD Limited Crew Cab TRD OR for $8500 with 270k. He won’t budge since he’s got a trade offer for $8k (he has a 2023 on delivery). Just had new brakes, rotors, and calipers all around. Regular oil/trans/diff fluid changes. Spark plugs were done 40k ago. Serpentine belt 60k ago. Rear main seal 30k ago. Leather redone recently.

It will get driven about 6k miles a year, so I don’t need much. I have a 2018 Sequoia as a family car. This truck will be for Home Depot and randomly when my wife and I need to be in two places at once which rarely happens (I work from home).

Do I need to worry about things like timing chains at any point?

If AIP never failed, would something cause it to at this point?

What else could potentially happen? Is it a huge risk?

    Too many, but not enough....
For the low miles you need it for I would do it after getting a really good once over done from a trusted mechanic. Check for leaks, varnish stains in engine, transmission shape, sounds/vibrations.

assuming OP is buying a 5.7, looking for a cam tower leak on a 270K 2007 seems a bit pointless. is that even a problem to worry about other than the smell it creates? sounds like it's in good shape. try to talk him down a bit even if it is only $500 difference. offer 8100 and a burrito

I got a 270k mile Tundra that's works great a 1.5 years ago. No major problems found. You already know the 5.7l is not a quiet engine because of the timing chains. But it should be Toyota reliability of taken care of properly. I would go for it. And honestly it's not a bad price in this market. You can likely sell it for the same price in 2 years with more miles on it since trucks are getting ever more expensive.

It definitely sounds like it's worth checking out. In today's market, that sounds like a good deal.

It sounds like a good deal as long as everything checks out. For your needs/situation, I think it will be good.

I bought my 2008 5.7L 2wd CC with 249xxx miles on it about a year ago. The previous owner had it from 2k miles until then. Came with 51 service records from the stealer. He spent an average of $1700 a year on maintenance. Always changed the trans/diff/engine fluids as he should have. So far I’ve changed the belt, tensioner, idler, and driveshaft u-joints to grease-able u-joints.

Only thing going bad is my fuel sending unit and it’s only the float level. Ran out of gas at about an 1/8th tank last weekend :censored:

Get it and I’ll race ya to 1,000,000 miles

My kids drove right away on their 16th birthday’s but many of their friends did not. Definitely a different generation than us lol.
