The day I bought it. Crappy Firestone Mud Terrains and a spacer lift. It also came with a good amount of rust that I found out about later. Ugh!

I then replaced the tires with Falken AT3Ws. I really liked these tires and will go back.

Front suspension install. I ended up replacing the Lower Arms since I had to cut out the driver side due to rust issues and seized bolts.

As I did a water pump swap on it (Bought with 154k miles), as it leaked, I went through and replaced all the hoses and ended up swapping to a Koyo Radiator. As I removed the radiator, I found out that my old one was cracked as well.

I also swapped out the open box K&N Filter that came with the truck with a closed box S&B Filter. Now I just have to diagnose a vacuum leak tripping the P0171 and P0174 codes.

Added Demello Sliders, RCI Front and Fuel Tank Skid. Also got a great deal on some Icon SIx Speed Wheels. I ended up going with some Goodyear Duratrac 315/70/17 that I found on Craigslist as well. I wanted to try them as I loved the Falkens but couldnt use them on the 17s. I will probably switch back to Falkens. Also installed the Rock Warrior grille and got rid of all the chrome trim from the Limited.

    191214.1.jpg

Removed the 60% Rear Seat and made a quick dog platform for the Huskies. One gets car sick and slipping around on leather seats was NOT helping.

Just got my ARE DCU Installed. I went with their 4x4 Reinforcement option which added some more gusset plates.

This is now my quarantine project. First step is starting my drawers for the back. I plan to go with an RTT as well. I want to insulate and carpet the topper, and will use it if its just me and the pups. But will use a tent when I bring my son along.

Nice build, love the stance. Perfect lift and tire size for our trucks imo. Why did you choose that particular height for the dog platform? I've been considering doing the same thing, for dog and cargo, and can't decide the best height.

Thanks! I agree... I was originally wanting 37s. My reason for going with these used Goodyears was to test them before going to 37s. I like this size though and its nice that I didnt have to do a Body Mount Chop either!

As far as the dog platform, It could be lower. I wasnt sure what I wanted to do as far as overall build out. So I placed it high enough that if I wanted to have a fold out piece, I could have a full back set platform for my 8 year old or something if he wanted to. So in order to do that, I had to base the height off of that. I could have kept it low and had a platform under the other seat when folded up maybe? There wasnt too much thought, as its still sitting there kind of temporary. Just needed to be able to drive 120 lbs worth of huskies around hahah!

I’ve been tempted to go the Rock Warrior grille route on mine as well. They sure look sharp.

Joined the X2 Power Club. I will still be doing a second house battery in the back that will keep my fridge and general lighting going. My current thoughts are, if I want to run a winch, I can just pull it from my starter battery and not worry too much. Then I can go with a cheaper Deep Cycle AGM in the back (Thinking Universal Battery brand?) and not have any major amp draw on it. Id hate wiring running from to back, so anything that I will use while running (Winch/Bumper Lights) I will run off the X2, and anything sitting at camp related (Camper lights/fridge/etc) will run off the back. Still unsure on this, but thats the current plan and I am sure its safe to do with the X2.

Added a Rhino Rack to the Topper. Their RTV Track and 54" HD Cross Bars. The cross bars are located over the intersections of the framing below, assuming this will be the best to bear weight of a RTT, since I will be going that route as well as a camper build out. Also, added a black bumper since mine was dented from previous owner. $88 on eBay, and I think it looks a lot better. While I had the bumper off, I painted the white strip under my rear doors with some leftover gray Steel-It that I had. The white strip really bothered me

How does the shell look up against the cab of your truck? The DC's have such an angled cab that I was wondering if your shell conformed to the angle or not.

Awesome build! I am looking to purchase a high mileage gen 2 in the coming weeks to build something similar to this. Have you had anymore issues other than the water pump, radiator, and lower arms?

Finally getting caught up. Busy work and temp in the 90s has been slowing down my progress lately. After intitially having the Falken Wildpeak AT3W, then trying a used set of Duratracs... I was very happy to go back to a Falken. I know people love the Duratracs but they just werent for me. 315/70r17 and no BMC yet. Soon I will since its too close for comfort.

Started working on my drawers as well for the rear. You can see where I plan to go with my second battery. For now, I am trying to get the main platform set up, then Ill work my way up and get the electrical all situated.

Im going to try to stain all the wood that is visible and non-carpeted. I do think little touches help DIY projects look much better.

And got my Tuff Stuff Alpha RTT (Fullsize) in this week. I realized the Rhino Rack is too tall (my opinion) for the tent. Im not a fan of huge air gaps under, especially since its tall enough. I will be doing a low profile rack using 8020 for the tent, then during winter months, Ill put the bare Rhino Rack on when the tent is off. The interior camper build will be if Im solo camping, camping during winter, or want stealth. For times I have my 9 year old and 2 huskies, a tent will be nice. I prefer to keep my dogs in a tent with me, in case they wake up in the night to some wild life, Id rather be near them to calm them down and they dont tear the bed up. So basically Ill have multiple options for sleeping scenarios. I even got the annex for the tent, for more options.

Time will tell. A tail gate would have made my drawers easier to support. But I think overall, the doors will be nice. I plan to do a few things to them.

You can see in the side pic I just posted with the tent. I wish it tapered a bit more, and was an inch shorter overall. Its slightly above cab height so when adding the rack and a tent, it makes it even taller.

Only issues I have are pinhole leakes at the upper and lower radiator hoses (engine side). I got some replacements (non-OEM) and I dont think they are tight enough. Im going to get some better hose clamps though that squeeze evenly around. Other than that, I have a CEL for Lean Code. I think its a little vacuum hose leak that I got when swapping air intake. I just need to spend the day going through each one. It usually trips the code when its hot outside (softer vacuum hoses).

Hey Dave - The truck is looking great. Wondering what your pros/cons might be with the Duratracs vs. Wildpeaks?

I know people love Duratracs. And mine could have been because I got them used with some wear. They just rode a lot like Mud Terrains and for what I do, I dont need something that aggresive. Im much happier with all terrains. Plus my Malamute-Husky Mix gets car sick and the noise and rough ride of the Duratracs didnt help.

I mainly wanted to test out the different Snow Flake rated tires. Ive had BFG KO2s on my 4Runner, which were decent. Nothing too wrong with them. I had the Wildpeaks in a 33 when I got the truck and needed something for winter. It had Firestone mud terrains on it when I bought the truck, and snow driving was impossible in them. I was really happy with the snow performance on the Falkens. The Duratracs did great in deeper(non-plowed) snow though.

I see you are up in Evergreen. Im down the hill from you so most of the roads are plowed by time I get to them. On plowed roads, I felt the Falkens (33s) did better (Plowed, compact, ice, etc.). Where the Duratracs seemed to do well if it snowed more and they didnt plow yet. I felts like I slid around a bit more than with the Falkens in those icy situations. You get more snow up there than we do and the Duratracs might benefit more. But for down in Denver, and wanting to smooth out the ride, the Falkens were my best bet. Again, With the Duratracs not new, the way they wore could have contributed to the noise.

Absolutely love the look of your truck. I have an 08 DC that im starting to build out myself. Was wondering if you'd had a chance to test out the tent/camper with the dogs...I have two dogs that ill be taking with me and don't know that it would be the easiest to get them up into a RTT. Sweet looking truck you have!
