"The base model and lower trim options will most likely have the 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 278 HP. This is the engine that’s found in the smaller, midsize Toyota Tacoma, and we can only hope for a power upgrade of at least 300 horsepower."

    No, just no.

If it’s true, that would be hilarious.

That engine receives enough complaints from the Tacoma guys. In a truck as heavy as the Tundra...oh boy.

"The 2022 Toyota Tundra is expected to begin around $35,000"

i continue to feel like i really made out with my tundra i bought new in 08. it's a 5.7, cm, 4x4 grade (base) trim that only has the tow and cold weather packages as extras from the dealer. got it for a little above $35k back then. if the above is true, you can't even get a new one with the more powerful engine for the same cost. that also prob means no 4wd or cm either at that price point. could be wrong. kinda lame.

I think the Taco 3.5 is fake news. That is less horsepower than the 4.6 and even the 4.0 was too weak for the Tundras.

What the hell is a "Motor Biscuit"? If it's anything like a "Toilet Turnip" or a "Urinal Muffin", I want no part of it.

Yeah... I had one of those gutless pigs in a 2018 TRD Offroad.
Biggest new vehicle purchase mistake I ever made.

If Toyota is truly stupid enough to put that 3.5 engine in a Tundra... I will never buy another new Tundra... and honestly I have ZERO INTEREST in buying ANY fullsize truck with a V6 in it, turbocharged or not.

FWIW Four Wheeler magazine's website posted pretty much the same info yesterday. Four Wheeler usually holds off on wild Yota speculation so this just might be fairly legit to what's going to happen.

the site is rubbish but if Toyota did put under-powered v6's or even under-powered v8's I won't be that upset for at least a decade. I have a 2020 and I plan on keeping it for a long time. And just think of the increased resale value!

The Big 3 all offer V6s in their full size trucks, though that's obviously not the only option and probably none of them are as anemic at the Taco engine.

Forcing people to move up to a higher trim level to get decent options is totally a GM move, though.

I'm interested in whatever Hybrid options might be coming out. Hoping they can get over 30 mpg around town. I think the upcoming F150 Hybrid will get 700 mpg per tank. not sure how many gal tanks come on those trucks

IMHO, V8 Hybrid would be a much better option, the "smaller" UR engines make very good power (albeit @ high-er RPMs) and won't get stressed nearly as much as a turbo V6... unless it's 2JZ or 1UZ levels of overbuild. Besides, lowering fuel consumption in the city is where the money's at.

I am looking forward to the increase in resale value, and not totally against the v6tt. It might make for a really good deal to trade in at the end of the 2022 model year. With all the push backs of the release date, I sure hope they get it right. Not like the updated taco

I just hope whatever they come out with is class leading. After buying my 2019 DC new, i would have been just as good to buy a 2017 used and saved some cash. Love the truck but they were a little hard to find used with low miles

Personally, I think the 5.7 will still be offered with the base truck, maybe with some updates. I think the higher-end models will have the turbo V6 hybrid drivetrain. I don't think Toyota will put the V6 back in the Tundra. They tried that for a few years and stopped offering it. People who want a V6 truck buy a Tacoma.

Motor Biscuit is the worst. They started popping up in my feeds and all the articles were complete crap. Literally, BS. I blocked their articles so I don't have to see their lies and bias opinions.

whatever Toyota does I hope it's on par with a Raptor - isn't that the benchmark for performance right now? And watch the price point soar :eek2:

Guess I’ll be buying a different brand next time I have to upgrade. I don’t need a full-sized truck without a V8. If I wanted a V6 truck I would have kept my Tacoma.

Yeah, if they gave us a Tundra with the power of the 6.2 Chevy in a V8 and the interior of a Ram I would consider buying a brand new truck for the first time in my life. Just paid off my Tundra and I think I’ll just keep that for a while.
