Buying a new vehicle, spending money on modifications, and trading it after 7-10 months is fun. It's also not sustainable. This thread is documentation of my attempt to keep a vehicle long enough to have to renew the registration.

The day I drove it off the lot:
    IMG_20220520_162729.jpg
Previous owner had the front windows tinted, had it sprayed with some oil based rust proofing, put on a cheap roll up tonneau cover, and had more agressive tires put on. For being a few years old it was in remarkable shape with almost no blemishes. It was obvious that they really cared about it.

This Tacoma I've been very adventurous in my purchases, my goal to be a little different and more practical than the average build (buying used stuff, knockoff stuff, and not well known/just released stuff.)

    Full mod list:
    6112s on 8/6 front with 5160s rear
    TuxMat floor mats
    Valvomax oil quick drain valve
    Amazon knockoff TRD Pro skid
    eBay blemish bed mat

    Tires ran:
    265/70/16 Kenda Klever AT2s
    265/75/16 Hankook winter i*pike x (w429a) winter

The actual first modification was a valvomax but I never took a picture so here is the first pictured modification, a vanity plate! A knockoff TRD Pro skid was also put on around the same time.

Next was the biggest mod yet. New suspension parts! Put on some 6112s and 5160s. Everything I'd hoped for and more. Wonderful ride on and off road.

Looks good! But a little rusty underneath?

You should invest in some Amsoil HD metal protector for your undercarriage. My trucks takes 3-4 cans depending on how thick I slather it on. Still looks new.

That's funny, I'm going to have to put a disclaimer on the photos as you are not the first person to think that it is rust. It is actually a layer of dirt and road grime on top of what I am assuming is fluid film or a similar oil-based rust protectant. If I scrape the "rust" with my fingernail it comes off leaving nice black paint underneath. Definitely appreciate you looking out though!

Ahh, I see. On my phone, it looks like rust. I apply my goo every Fall. I'm actually due to coat it again in a week or two. Stuff stinks for a day or so. But it works!!

Looking good! You have any interior mods planned? Shift knob, cubby inserts, decals or stickers, etc.?

Umm, only two interior mods that I can think of doing at some point would be seat covers and maybe changing over the interior lighting to LEDs. As far as stickers go I was thinking about getting a Wisconsin outline to put on the rear window on the driver side and a U.P. outline to put on the rear window on the passenger side.

The guy tells us about the world's best floor mats but yet, doesn't mention a brand.

I might be wrong, but @FirstGenVol, and I theorized that the mud dust will attract moisture in high humidity times, and hold it next to the metal. Causing more rust. It's just a theory... we both use fluid film to protect our frames. I just spray over the dirt, and I THINK he cleans his.

I've seen a few of those RA plates recently, have thought about getting one. I like that they're all black and white lettering.
