Did anyone see Eddie Hall’s response? He was the previous record holder at 500kg. Now he’s calling Thor out saying he’s coming for him next WSM comp, and also claiming Thor should have done it during a competition instead of that private event. IMO, it was a verified good lift (judge on hand that gave the down signal) and the record is broken, comp or not.

Incredible. I am glad to see them allowed straps and a pronated grip. too many ruptured biceps with a mixed grip. Dead lifts is one of those exercises that if you get hurt, it is usually bad.

I *hope* everyone here deadlifts. Besides the squat, it’s the king of all lifts. And heavy deads will absolutely increase your squat. And if you’re not doing squats, you’re definitely doing it wrong.

Anyhow, 495# is my best (5 plates on each side). I’m 6’3” 200lbs. Thor more than doubled my DL

6hundo. Thank god I got it when I did. No more powerlifting for me...at least for now. As long as I can maintain 500 I’m good.

As for comp vs gym... I agree that pull counts. I also see Eddie’s point about it not being pulled in a comp. Thor’s just going to have to do it again to quiet the haters.

Also you don’t get anywhere this level without understanding the importance of locked elbows and pulling slack before initiating the pull(along with numerous other setup aspects). Though torn biceps can happen just do to shear load most of those injuries are ego lifters.
Edit: here’s a video from a charity event I did. Probably the only time I’ll step on a platform.

Totally agree re: overhand/underhand grip vs straps! I’ve tried hookgrip on DLs, but it’s so uncomfortable (read: painful) on heavy pulls that I just rather go under/over grip instead. I pulled 495 without straps. Only time I use straps is when doing multiple heavy reps and grip starts to go.

But dang, a 600 pull is heavy! Don’t think I’ll ever get that high. Maybe mid 500s for me...

Holy shit! I thought Eddie Hall’s response to Thor’s pull was about coming for him at the next World’s Strongest Man comp. But, no...

They are going to have a f*cking BOXING MATCH!

No disservice to Eddie Hall, but Hafthor looked like it was any other day out and looked completely unphased afterwards. Eddie when he lifted 500kg looked like he was a sliver away from death.
