About a year ago, I had to get rid of my fully built 07 FJ https://www.expeditionportal.com/fo...e-territory-a-northern-maine-adventure.67758/ due to frame rust and a host of other issues. I still miss the FJ, but decided to get a "more family friendly truck I wouldn't modify". I found a 2018 Tundra Crew Max Limited with the off road package, and that would be "enough". I lasted about a year before venturing out in the snow and finding the limits of a stock Tundra. When out alone, I like the peace of mind that comes with a winch. Why not get some sliders too and maybe a small lift, but keep the tires stock for mileage. I started making plans and buying parts. Chrome was the first to go, I always hated the look.

I had been dreaming of a four wheel camper for a long time, one day I dragged my wife into Mule Expedition Outfitters in Issaquah WA, and they happened to have the perfect model on the floor. She fell in love with it immediately, and a few days later we put a deposit down.

The stock tires lasted until the second trip, where we got a flat on the worst part of Hart's Pass:

5 Tire plugs later (glad I bought that ARB plug kit) I was able to get off the pass and change the tire.

I wanted adjustable damping with a focus on reliability. The bypass damping is very good, and the adjustable compression / rebound are great for different load situations or highway vs gravel. The ARB package doesn't allow as much travel as other options, so should help with longevity of the front end components without aftermarket UCAs. Time will tell.

I'm also pretty close to ARB USA, so the eventual rebuild won't be a big issue I hope.

Nice rig! I've been wanting an FWC for so long. A Grandby shell to be exact. Just wish they weren't so darn expensive. :(

Hey, I'm just about to pull the trigger on a very similar setup on my 2014 DC. Going with bp51, bags, and UCEs. I have sliders from a local shop in Sacramento, Califabrication. Any thoughts on the suspension setup? Everything I'm reading suggests that upgraded springs are highly recommended but the camper will be off the truck at times and I don't want to jack up the empty ride. I guess the ARB kit actually includes stiffer springs, yeah?

    Cheers,
    Bill

Also curious on how you are liking the BP-51 setup. Looking at getting it myself with the Dakar rear leafs and maybe UCAs. Bags and say star cradles would get added at some point to help carry the load.
