I recently purchased a 35' travel trailer. It is awesome, and the Tundra does a good job tugging it around. It's a bumper pull trailer and I don't have any problem backing it to where I want it to go. The only problem is that I can't see what's behind the trailer almost 50' behind the driver's seat. If only I had a way to see back there... and display it on my Head Unit...

...And so the FRAC XPM concept was born.

I drew up the schematic at lunch today and I'm going to TRY to get the prototype built in the next week or so. It is essentially a 2:1 video selector that will work in conjunction with the FRAC harness. The truck's rear cam input will be disconnected from the FRAC circuit and connected to one of the XPM inputs. The other XPM input will be connected to the new video line coming from my trailer rear camera. The XPM output will then connect to the "Rear" input on the FRAC circuit. An XPM video select switch will select either the factory tailgate cam or the RV cam for display through the FRAC whenever the shifter is in reverse - or when the FRAC reverse view is selected.

For those without the worries of a travel trailer, the XPM could still be used to add another camera view to the FRAC. Perhaps an under-chassis cam for the rock climbing or overland guys, or maybe a side view camera...

You now know how I want to use it, so tell me how you might use another video stream input to the HU.

This is a great idea. Side view and trailer cameras would be useful. Can't wait to see it in action.

    Still rocking the stock height.
I have a 33' trailer so something like this would be great. I still need to do the FRAC first. Then get the camera wired onto the trailer and add this new harness.
What about side cameras? I have seen some vehicles that have cameras in the side mirrors. Could the new harness be expended to add more than one camera? I could see how a camera on each side plus the one at the rear of the trailer could help while towing, for changing lanes.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but it sounds cool!

    This!
I’ve been toying with the idea of adding a camera under each mirror.
Would be cool to have more than one additional input!

Might as well make a birds-eye-view. That would be really nice.

Tex, this would be an awesome addition to the FRAC harness. I have a 21’ camper and it’s tough enough to back in - even at 15’ less in length.

I like the bird's eye view idea. A camera mounted up top on a light bar. Any way to incorporate a digital recorder in the system?

Two additional camera inputs is fairly straightforward. It would require one additional rocker switch exactly like the camera select switch used with the FRAC Harness now. So that would give you four total inputs (one being the factory tailgate camera). You could connect the inputs to a roof cam, side cam, trailer cam, and even a remote wireless receiver from a following drone!

I’ll have to update the design accordingly.

Sounds like another great idea Lou.
I have 3 trailers and there are times when a camera on the back of trailer could be really useful.
BTW: My friend, my Ford truck driving friend, called me the other day for help. It was really cool and helpful to be able to have the rear camera on while setting up, driving the slack out and pulling him with the tow strap.

Love it! Reason #27 to do the FRAC mod... to help your friends who drive Fords!
