First post on the forum and boy do I feel like a moron

backstory. Deer hit my truck and dented driver door and passenger rear door.

So I got a grade a color matched set of doors from a junk yard. Installed them and you can’t even tell the paint difference or anything. Truck looks back to amazing shape.

Here’s where I become a clown. I open the driver door. Head off to Orileys for some parts for my mustang project.I get to Orileys and I can’t open my door. Figured I must of installed something wrong.

I go home. Take off door panel and everything looks good but the cable came off for the door latch. So re install it. Which was a pain in the ass because it went to this small metal bracket connected to the side of the door. I reinstall the door panel and guess what…. No I can’t open the door from the inside or outside!

On top of that, I forgot to change the door handles! So now the handle from the junkyard door won’t accept my key. FML

I have been battling the door for 4 hours without any luck as to opening it

had a locksmith come out, he can’t open it. He thinks the cable popped off again.

So is my only option to rip apart the door panel and buy a new one from a junk yard?

any ideas how to get the door open?

    Damn I feel dumb.

Truck is a 2010 sr5 grade model. Electric doors and windows.

That was a helluva deer to damage doors on both sides of the truck.

Did this deer grow up around Chernobyl or Three Mile Island?

    Fukushima, perhaps?

Plan (a): I'd fumble around for a few hours with bent nose pliers behind the interior handle. The cables are right there once you remove the plastic finger guard. Look at the passenger side for hints.
Plan (b): Tear the door card out enough to get access to the cable. May get lucky and only need new retaining clips.
Plan (c): Race car it. Hopefully it sits high so everyone gets a laugh.

sounds like the cable came unhooked from the lock mechanism.

I actually had this happen before on my 2017 when working on sound deadening. If i remember correctly there are two screws to remove the lock mechanism from the door. If not you have to reach your arm in and try to re attach it.

Yeah, I'm actually kind of disappointed.

When I saw the title I was expecting something monumentally stoopid that might make me feel better about myself, but alas it was not to be.

This ain't even top (bottom?) 10 dumbest post I've read here.

Haha glad I am not the dumbest post ever. But I sure feel dumb as hell.

to clarify. The deer hit my bumper, whipped around and hit the driver door and driver side passenger door. There’s a perfect imprint of the deers body on the door. It hit it so perfectly that its ass sprayed its shit all over the rear passenger door. It was quite comical. Looked like something out of a meme.

I just feel dumb that I most likely attached the cables wrong and then made it impossible for the door the be opened from the inside and outside

Thank you for the suggestions of using the bent pliers. If that doesn’t work, I will take it to a body shop to see if they can open it

Herein lies the confusion. The deer hit both driver side doors; you're just calling the rear door a passenger door, which I guess it technically is.

It was multiple deer, gang banging his truck. At least the deer were able to walk away, unlike that guy from a few weeks ago.

Agreed, for sure. Since no elk hunting or mailboxes are involved, its got a good way to go before being close to “dumbest”!
