Thanks for welcomes! I'm new to you forum so be patient with me. Here we go. I bought my dream truck about a week ago. Paid $700 for 07 Tundra SR5 double cab with the 4.7 engine with about 200,000 miles. The seller told me the timing belt broke as he was coasting down his street going about 20 mph. For $700 I could buy another engine IF I had to. The engine cranks but doesn't start.

I tried starter fluid and got nothing. I turned my focus to spark. Since the previous owner said it was the timing belt I took off the covers and saw the timing belt was not broken. I took off a plug wire, inserted a spark plug, grounded the plug, and tried to start the motor. I got no spark.

I believe, but not fully convinced yet, that I have a spark problem. I know to check the fuses but am not sure which ones are important. When I put the truck on the computer I get and error message. It literally says "error" and tells me to try again. Can you give me some ideas of what to check AND an order to check? PLEASE!

My two or three thoughts are these.
    1. The ecu (computer) is bad and I don't get a spark.
    2. The alarm (anti theft) is disabling the engine and I don't get spark. The owner gave me one fob and two keys. Sid the fob works but "one of the keys is shot." I have tried starting it with both keys and if doesn't seem to matter.
    3. A fuse or relay is bad.
    4. It's not a spark problem at all. This is my first Toyota and I'm getting used to the nuances of Toyota. For example... I had to buy a batter just to take it out of park. Never had a vehicle that required power to take it out of park. So... maybe there's some kind of Toyota trick I don't know about.

HELP! Please. Love this truck and want to drive it! Thanks!

While I'm on the subject of ecms. I have replaced a Chevy and a Saturn ecm. Both needed to be programmed based on the VIN. When I price ecms on places like eBay they seem to require you to send yours in and they take a month to repair and return it. Is this typical or can you get another ecm programmed for my Tundra?

I'd find a friendly locksmith and see if he can program a new key. If a new key starts the truck, you're good to go. If he can't program the key, the ECU's shot and you can go from there. If he can program the key and it still won't start, the security system's hosed and you'll need a lot of in-depth troubleshooting to find the actual problem. Overall, the price of the locksmith service call will tell you where to start. If you know a locksmith personally, the price of a six pack of his favorite imbibement could save you some appreciable cash.
