Thanks to a recent post by T-rex266 I double checked the maintenance schedule for my wife's car. She took it in today at 40k and was quoted +/- $900 for a "major" service. Well, turns out that's about $800 worth of visual inspections like check headlight adjustment. I think I'd notice if the the headlights actually needed adjustment. The list is tediously long so I won't bore y'all with the details but an hour or so of my time to perform the inspections myself pretty much pays for my oldest daughter's plane ticket to Europe this summer.

Damn. That is a total ripoff. I know even on Toyota’s at the dealership you take it in the rear. Do you have a good VW independent mechanic around?

Nah he knows what he’s doing. Just don’t wear tight pants. Wear something loose like sweat pants; preferably black.
