Thinking about going to Tesla solar here in Central CA. PGE is sticking it to us with our bill...
What are your thoughts/reviews with the system and customer service? Thinking of getting 2 power walls with the 12.24 kw system.
We currently have the house set at 82 to have 300 dollar a month bill. And that's with new windows and insulation in the attic.
AC is about 6 to 7 years old....

Sit down and really make sure that you do not have any thought of moving in the next 10-12 years.

Pge sucks.... expensive as shit, luckily we have smud for electricity.

That seems like quite a large system for a $300 a month bill. We have a 8.185kw system that we've had for a little over 7 years. We have two 4 ton AC units, a hot tub, pond, etc. and I had a $65 credit balance this past month, so it does the job.

It is a little large but with future plans we would grow into. It.
I have a single 4 ton to cool the house off. That's 300 at 82*f, if I kept it at 77 or so it would become a 500 dollar bill

I have solar on my house. Not Tesla, but LG panels. I have a 15kw system. 1450sf house. I live in south Louisiana and my thermostat is on 75 during the day and 72 at night. We’ve had triple digits the past two months regularly.

my highest bill this summer was $62.

    That's good then.
How much is your bill if you were to set your ac at 78?

    About 450
I use about 50 to 60kwh per day with it at 74-78 degrees. 82 drops it to about 35 a day.

Ours is about 8 or so, it was replaced at least after 2012

Air coming out is about 21 degrees colder than what's going in.

Don't have Tesla here either or a battery backup. We purchased a 5 KW system for a 2000 sqft home with LG panels and a Solar Edge inverter over 4 years ago. Couple of thoughts on buying a system:
    • Cost per Watt: Comparison shop based on the cost per watt before tax incentives
    • New Roof: Consider having a new roof installed that will last the life of the system, preferably by a solar company that also does roofing. My neighbors went over a 21 year old roof because the solar company offered a 20 year leak guarantee. This only helps if it's a leak caused by the install. Of course they had a leak that wasn't "caused" by the solar install. On my install, I had my roofer coordinate with the solar company so that the proper flashings, etc. were all specified and done by the roofer on a new roof. This was a pain but much better than the normal quick and dirty install method used by the solar company.
    • Over-sized Inverter: If you have room (and the need) for more panels in the future, consider over-sizing the inverter now. It's an incremental price increase upfront that will save having to purchase a complete larger inverter to replace the original inverter when you decide to expand. Besides, the panels are only going to get cheaper and more efficient in the future.

Dang.. at that rate with Sac’s climate I’d be going heat pump only. Ditch the AC and heater completely.

Wouldn’t worry me. Pretty sure compressed gas gets above 104 and provides enough temperature gap. Wont be as efficient but it’ll still drop the temp. I have friends in ME with them that are still able to heat their homes when the temp hits in the 20s/teens. They’re actually pretty incredible if you look at their capabilities

I thought about solar when we moved to our new house in Idaho then started getting my bill and decided not worth it here. 3200sqft house, electric spa, computers on all the time and ac set to 70 24/7 from June thru sept and our bill never goes over $120.
When we were in So Cal our Bill was $250 and we did not even have AC.
Electric in CA is stupid high.

Ahhh, just looking at the graph and 104 is a little on the high side. It if it’s only for a day or two might be able to make it past..

Heat pumps and ACs are virtually the same thing. Just comes down to efficiency, really. But at least you kill two birds with one stone

That's what I thought at first, it wasn't worth it but looking at Tesla's new system it makes it enticing. It's supposed to be 235/month for a 12kw system and 2 powerwall batteries. That should allow me to go to 78 from 82 which is a huge difference in my eyes

The system itself(with the tax credit) is 28,000, I would do a loan which would bring it to around 42000. If I stick with PGE, I would spend 48,000 in the next 10 years ASSUMING their prices don't go up. Looking back at 2010 prices to now, prices have went from .12/kwh to .24/kwh doubling...

I was quoted $30K for a system but at $120/month max I would never get my money back before the system was ready to be replaced. If I could get a system under 10K then I would do it.
