It used to be my drink of choice, I have had some rather bad experiences with it. The smell makes me sick anymore, cant stand the shit. Your better off with scotch or bourbon.

Lol.... I don't care for those flavors.
Hence I asked for someone with a developed taste for tequila. Mostly the older properly processed stuff.. knowledge of NOM and master distiller.

But then again, maybe I just haven't had a good taste of scotch or bourbon. I guess it's like tequila, some is just "production" and some has an effort put into it.

It was Christmas time and friends had dropped by for a Mexican dinner of sorts.
He brought all the fixin's for authentic Margaritas which were about as good as they get. I had several bottles of tequila in stock so we did a taste test.

Oddly enough we both came to the same conclusion ~ Cuervo Gold was our sipping tequila of choice. In a Margarita just about anything goes.
If I'm sippin' tequila it's gotta be Cuervo Gold.

Everyone wants something different ~ make mine Cuervo Gold. I LOVE the stuff !

By no means an aficionado but tequila is my spirit of choice. Particularly fond of KAH Reposado.

I’m with you on the scotch and most bourbons. HOWEVER there are a few bourbons that I do really enjoy but they usually have to have a splash of something in there like soda. I know all the bourbon connoisseurs scoff at that but it’s how I choose to live my life.

I’m more of a vodka guy but if it has to be tequila I’ll take Reposado 1800.

El Jimador or Herradura Reposado with a little lime. Tequila is healthier than bourbon since is from a plant.

If it’s masked in a foo foo drink I can tolerate it. But that’s the only way. Vodka is my preferred choice.

Congratulations, this takes the Bull shit award for the month.
More people have died from Tequila than Bourbon / Whiskey.

I knew a guy who used to drink nothing but Vodka long time ago.
He'd get shit faced crazy, we would take him out to some pasture land here and he'd try to knock over cows.
He never knocked one over but we laughed our asses at him.

Nice selection! I've heard some of the older Azul is really good. I like the 1942 similar to Jose cuervo family reserve

I'm usually a bourbon guy, but my brother just got back from a trip to Mexico and brought me this. I have no idea what brand it is but I'm going to give it a taste test next weekend on a camping trip.

Add me to the list of those who had a bad experience and can't stomach it anymore.

Odd, because I've been sick on beer, wine, bourbon, vodka and probably others I'm forgetting, but only tequila makes my stomach queasy at the smell of it.

Actually, have the same reaction with chewin' tobacco. Started that habit in high school. Got drunk at a party and swallowed a big lip full of Skoal. Never could dip again after that. In hind sight, that one wound up being one of my best bad decisions ever.

I used to hate tequila, but a friend brought some organic oranges and Casamigos over and made the most amazing margaritas I’ve ever had. Made me rethink my liquor cabinet. So I guess I’ll say Casamigos.

I'm a tequila nut, I've been to all of the major distilleries and many, many smaller ones. I've had 2 college courses on it, one historical and the other was functional.
The Free Trade agreement fooked it all up in many ways. Used to be that good tequila was 100% Blue Agave and anything else was considered a "mixta"
Price has nothing to do with quality anymore. One of the best bangs for your buck is CostCo's Kirkland brand if you're going to mix it. Its made by major players but is a good quality and a great value.
If you want a good sipping tequila, just find one you like.
Blanco- young tequila and my personal favorite. Tastes the most like Agave.
Reposado- med. age @ 2-12 months
    Anejo- older @ 1-4 yrs

Now there are extra anejo's and dessert tequilas, almost like a port.

The older it is, the spicier it gets as it pics up the flavor from the barrel.
While Reposado's andAnejo's will have some color, it comes from the tannins in the oak. Stay away from most anything that is dark colored. Souza's Cuervo is a great example of the color coming from burnt sugar. Had a bad experience with tequila ? Thats generally why.
