Am I the only one who hates the plastic tailgate spoiler thingy?

Its only purpose appears to be as a dust and water collector. I spend a lot of time on dusty dirt roads. When I power wash my truck, dirty water drips from behind the spoiler. If I want a truly clean truck, I have to wait at least an hour for the dripping to stop, then re-wash the tailgate and rear bumper by hand. I'm sure some of you know what I'm talking about.

I've thought about using a bead of clear silicone sealant where the spoiler meets the sheet metal, but I'm concerned that will end up looking crappy over time. I did that on a few trim pieces when I restored my old Jeep CJ. It serves the purpose, but the silicone went from clear to dirty looking in a short time.

Do you guys have any ideas about how I could seal the spoiler off from dust and water getting behind it?

    Thanks.

Thanks. I just removed the inside cover of my tailgate. Judging by the massive amount of dust inside the tailgate, it's clear the dust is getting in from multiple places, not just the spoiler. Completely sealing up the tailgate from dust is going to be difficult, if not impossible.

The spoiler is just a crap design. As you mentioned, it's formed into the tailgate sheet metal on other trucks. I don't even think it looks good, Not sure why that became a popular "feature" that Toyota felt they needed to copy.
